VANDALIA

Membership: Three unidentified members

Purpose: Unrevealed (see comments)

Aliases: None

Affiliations: None

Enemies: Grip (Brandon Blake)

Base of Operations: Milan, Italy

First Appearance: Europa#3 (September 1996)

History:
(
Europa#3 (fb) - BTS) - Through unrevealed means a trio of Italian-based (and possibly Italian) criminals gained access to sophisticated, high-tech weapons, possibly including cybernetics.

(Europa#3 (fb)) - Taking inspiration from American examples, they became the self-professed "supercriminals" Vandalia, and launched an unexpected raid in the heart of Milan, razing two banks to the ground and spreading panic.

The police proved helpless against their firepower, but Gemini member Grip swiftly put an end to their rampage.

Comments: Created by Giorgio Lavagna, Francesco Mio, Luca Poli and Carmine Di Giandomenico.
Poli and Di Giandomenico did the character designs for the Gemini characters, while
Fabrizio Ugolini  and Giampaolo Frizzi drew and inked the actual series.

With only four panels showing them rampaging with no apparent focus, it's uncertain what motivated Vandalia's members.

The text mentions that they "razed" banks, but it's not mentioned if that included robbing them. Given they hung around to shoot the city up, and their choice of name echoing "vandal," they might simply have wanted to cause chaos and destruction.

Their origins are similarly vague - they might have been connected to the Alba Nera (Black Dawn) terrorist group mentioned in other parts of the story, their tech might mean they were connected to A.I.M. (Advanced Idea Mechanics), also mentioned in the story, or they might have been independent from both - given their tech and that two looked at least partially cybernetic, maybe they are rogue Reavers who evaded capture by the X-Men and didn't return to the group when Donald Pierce took over.

Profile by Loki, with invaluable aid from comic translator Angelo Mammone.
