History: (New Warriors IV#9 (fb) - BTS) - Vandalo was a member of Alphaclan, a team that was in the number twelve spot on S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Most Wanted list. Eventually, they encountered the New Warriors, and either a battle ensued, or the New Warriors had only recently finished another, earlier battle (see comments).

(New Warriors IV#9) - Vandalo and the rest of Alphaclan faced off against the battle-weary New Warriors, cockily sure of beating the youths should it come to battle. The New Warriors distracted their foes with a giant image of Warrior Decibel, and battle commenced.

During the fight Ripcord struck Vandalo with an electrical blast, but the tide soon turned against the Warriors; Kilamanjaro stunned Wondra with a blow to the face, and Vandalo walked up behind her as she struggled onto her knees. Raising his heavy club, he reminded her that all she had needed to do was let them pass, claiming Alphaclan were not responsible for what would now happen.

With that, Vandalo brought the club down with a rock-shattering smash, as it passed clean through Wondra as if she was a ghost, much to both parties' complete shock. Across the battlefield all the New Warriors discovered they had turned insubstantial. The voice of the newly arrived Night Thrasher announced that he called it ghost mode, holding up the remote control which had activated phasing technology built into his teammates' armors. Seizing the opportunity while Alphaclan were distracted, Decibel emitted a sonic scream that incapacitated all the villains.

(New Warriors IV#9 - BTS) - The defeated Alphaclan were left for the authorities.

(New Warriors IV#9) - The TV news that evening reported Alphaclan's capture.

Comments: Created by Kevin Grevioux (writer), Paco Medina (penciler) and Juan Vlasco (inker).

Alphaclan are very obviously homages to Hanna-Barbera's superheroes. None of them were individually identified in their single appearance, but Kevin Grevioux posted Paco Medina's designs for six of them on Twitter, and those included the original names; one member remains without an official name, and he (Vængir) has been given an unofficial placeholder name for the time being.

He's based on the Mighty Mightor, though unlike his cartoon counterpart there was no evidence of him having a pet dragon. His name might be a reference to the Vandals, a Germanic tribe who helped bring about the fall of the Roman Empire, but with the "o" at the end of his name, he might also be named for the mythological figure some scholars believe the Vandals worshipped and derived their name from, Aurvandil/Auriwandalo - shining wanderer. Aurvandil turns up in various tales, including at least one mention in Norse legend involving Thor. If Grevious named Vandalo for the mythological figure, then with all the other mythical beings running around Earth-616 it's entirely possible the Alphaclan member
is the actual Aurvandil of legend.

Big thanks to MarvellousLuke for cleaning up the design sheets by Paco Medina taken from Kevin Grevioux's Twitter account and turning them into great new main images for the Alphaclan profiles.
