History:
(Uncanny Avengers III#6 (fb) - BTS) - Ivan Guerrero grew up in Mexico but eventually relocated to Boston. He was later joined by his grandchildren, Emily and her brother, who were half-Irish and half-Mexican.

(Uncanny Avengers III#1 (fb) ) - Ivan was working as a crossing guard while he suffered from lung cancer. On the night he felt he was dying, the Terrigen Mists entered his room, and he woke up transformed and healthy, able to tap into the Earth's ecosystems. After finding Emily also emerging from a cocoon with powers, he spent months attending protests to save the dolphins and to stop oil drilling, but he began to feel hopeless about saving the planet. Emily's brother seemingly didn't survive Terrigenesis. In the following months, he grew more accustomed to his powers, and his connection to vegetation across the planet. He began to see humans as a threat and made plans to kill all animal life so that plant life could survive.

(Uncanny Avengers III#1) - Months later, the Shredded Man launched an attack on Boston, Massachusetts, extending vines throughout the city and growing mutated dogs and giant bees out of flower blossoms. The Shredded Man himself confronted a police officer, transforming him into plant-life.

(Uncanny Avengers III#2) - The Shredded Man approached the mayor of Boston, demanding that humans abandon their cities or face death, and he expanded massive plant growth throughout the city. When Quicksilver attacked, the Shredded Man easily defeated him, planning to feed him to the creatures he was generating.

(Uncanny Avengers III#3) - Quicksilver narrowly evaded death before escaping. The Shredded Man attacked the Avengers Unity Squad (Synapse, Cable, Rogue, Deadpool), and Cable shot right through the Shredded Man, who instantly healed. As neurotoxins and psychoactive spores spread through the city, Synapse rushed forward to confront the Shredded Man, who unmasked and revealed himself as her grandfather.

(Uncanny Avengers III#4) - Synapse realized that the Shredded Man was planning a global extinction and she attacked him. Synapse broke Ivan's neck, though he could easily heal, and she was prepared to kill him, but Cable stopped her. He explained that he was from a future where the Shredded Man had killed all of humanity except for Inhumans, and Cable had designed an immunity for humans as well as a separate toxin that would make Inhumans vulnerable. Shredded Man stated that he was prepared to die for his cause, but Cable hit Synapse with it instead. Unwilling to watch Emily die, Shredded Man withdrew his attack on Boston, then he gave up his physical form, promising he would return.

(X-Men Gold#23) - In the subway tunnels in New York City, Shredded Man prepared for his next attack.

(X-Men Gold#24) - Ivan attacked the city with vines until Rogue led a team of X-Men to stop him. They tried using Cable's "cure" on Shredded Man, but he had developed immunities. Shredded Man's vines showed his cancerous growths, and Rogue soon took the Shredded Man's power to reverse the damages. Rogue invited Shredded Man to choose a different path, but he vowed to have his revenge on humans.
