History:
(Cowboy Action#6/4 (fb) - BTS) - Sam Scragg illegally
sold rifles, ammunition and alcohol to Apaches. This resulted in many
violent clashes and many lives lost on both sides.
(Cowboy Action#6/4) - During one transaction, the
Apache chief asked why he should not be killed, but Scragg promised a
continued supply. The Apache chief saw Scragg as a man without honor,
but necessary in their fight to maintain their lands. Despite the dead
and wounded fallen in battle between Apaches and American soldiers and
settlers, Scragg felt no compassion, only greed, counting his gold. One
day, Apache Chief Screaming Wolf signaled for more supplies and Scragg
sold all he had. The Chief despised Scragg as he rode off. Happy with
his gold, Scragg took his wagon and intended to retire, but his wagon
wheel broke. Scragg fumbled hurriedly as he repaired it, but the rising
moon brought the Apache attack with Scragg-supplied rifles. Scragg was
the first victim of the last unsuccessful Apache attack.
