History: (Daredevil I#144 (fb) – BTS) – Professor Kerwin developed a name for himself as he sought to utilize animal serums to improve human physiology.

(Marvel Team-Up I#73 (fb) - BTS) – Kerwin established his own institute for his research and was featured in the Daily Bugle.

(Daredevil I#144) – Man-Bull and members of the Owl's gang broke into the East Side Research Center to kidnap Kerwin. Man-Bull revealed that Owl's legs weren't working properly as he had been taking a flight serum for years that had damaged him but Man-Bull planned to force Kerwin to change him back into human form. Later, after Daredevil stopped Man-Bull and Owl escaped, Kerwin confessed that he would have helped both men if only they had asked.

(Daredevil I#145 (fb) – BTS) – Kerwin was put under armed guard to protect him from the Owl.

(Marvel Team-Up I#73 (fb) – BTS) – After a battle with Daredevil, Owl's helicopter crashed in frozen waters and his leg braces were destroyed. Owl's men kidnapped Professor Kerwin again, forcing him to work on Owl or they would kill him and dismantle his institute. Kerwin tended to Owl's injuries, ordering him to convalesce for a period of time.

(Marvel Team-Up I#73) – Owl disregarded Kerwin's advice and launched another attack on Daredevil. When Daredevil and Spider-Man fought Owl's gang, Owl threatened to kill Kerwin unless he surrendered. To push Owl's stress limits forward, Kerwin claimed he was Owl's ally and not his captive. Owl screamed in fury then the shock drove him into a collapse. Owl entered a vegetative coma as Kerwin was freed from his shackles.
