    (actual appearance, identified)
X-Factor I#111 (February, 1995)

Powers/Abilities:
klanti_race-stasis-zap.jpg    The K'lanti travel via starships that can also fly within a planet's atmosphere.

The K'lanti could track certain beings, such as Lila Cheney, although they could not apparently track the Harmonium.
Perhaps they simply followed Lila's trail/history without actually tracking her.
As such, it is unclear whether they or their ship have any advanced tracking abilities.

The ships can project tractor beams able to physically transport other beings, as well as energy stasis fields that can contain others, preventing teleportation.

Via a hand gesture, the K'lanti could generate electrical blasts (affecting  anyone with one of their stasis fields, at least) and/or form force shields sufficient to stop the powerful Guido Carosella.
It is unrevealed whether they physically possessed these powers, utilized technology on their persons, or controlled their ship to perform these actions.
klanti_race-shield.jpg

The K'lanti could levitate for extended periods with minimal effort.

They used diamond-like weapons as bombs they could explode at will of which would explode when manipulated.

Traits: They treasure the Harmonium, considering its music to be heavenly.

They value peace, although they were willing to engage in civil war for reasons unspecified reasons.

The K'lanti are willing to sacrifice property and innocent beings to recover what is rightfully theirs.

History:

klanti_race-face(X-Factor I#110 (fb) - BTS / X-Factor I#111 (fb) - BTS) - When the K'lanti were having a civil war, human mutant thief Lila Cheney stole their Harmonium music box, allegedly because she didn't want it to be destroyed in the war.

(X-Factor I#111 (fb) - BTS) - Jornik stole the Harmonium from Lila.

(X-Factor I#111 (fb) - BTS / X-Factor I#110) - Feeling they needed the Harmonium to prevent an entire star system from going to war, the K'lanti demanded its return from Lila Cheney.

(X-Factor I#111 (fb) - BTS) - A  pair (at least) of  K'lanti trailed Lila Cheney and eventually caught up to her on Earth.

(X-Factor I#111) - A pair of K'lanti appeared above the city of Madripoor, snaring Lila Cheney with a tractor beam from their ship and then trapping her with an energy stasis field.

Speaking in their own tongue, the apparently demanded Lila return the Harmonium to them, and when she told them she didn't have it, they tormented her with electrical assaults within her stasis sphere. klanti_race-complete.jpg

When Strong Guy (Guido Carosella) protested, one of the K'lanti projected a force shield that knocked him back. When X-Factor (Forge, Havok/Alex Summers, Polaris/Lorna Dane, Strong Guy, and Wolfsbane/Rahne Sinclair) prepared to engage the K'lanti to free Lila, she told them to stay back, and she explained to the K'lanti that she didn't have the Harmonium with her, but that she could get it. They responded to her in their language (apparently offering/instructing her to retrieve the Harmonium), to which she replied that that would be great, although it would be a lot easier if they let her out of the stasis field, which they did.

The K'lanti then released a floating pink diamond, which subsequently detonated, taking out an entire city block. Per Lila's translation, the K'lanti then noted that to have been incentive and that they were dispatching six other such diamonds to different locations in the city to be detonated if the Harmonium wasn't returned to them within an hour. With Forge's persuasion, Lila transported herself, Guido, and Polaris to Cygnus Prime to retrieve the Harmonium while he, Havok, and Wolfsbane remained in Madripoor and targeted the exploding diamonds.

(X-Factor I#111 - BTS) - Determining that the diamonds had a fail-safe built into them that would cause them to go into self-destruct mode if deviated from their respective axes by more than eight degrees, Forge joined Havok and Wolfsbane in flying to a diamond via helicopter and place a propulsion unit on one end. The unit flew the bomb to a higher elevation while maintaining its internal axis. When it was a safe distance away, Havok destroyed fired a plasma burst that destroyed the diamond. They then headed out after the other five diamonds.

On Cygnus Prime, Lila, Guido, and Polaris recovered the Harmonium, and then Lila teleported them back to Madripoor.

(X-Factor I#111) - As she returned the Harmonium to the K'lanti, Lila responded to whatever they stated, telling them she told them she would get it. klanti_race-harmonium-music.jpg

The K'lanti then summoned the Harmonium to them, and it hummed as it rose, a discordant alien music filling the air, playing a tune of repetitive measures in various octaves. While the music was painful to some, such as the lupine-sensed Wolfsbane, the K'lanti considered it the music of Heaven -- the song of the Angels -- a melody that would restore peace to a war-weary people.

Having regained the Harmonium, the K'lanti departed, leaving behind a box with Lila.

(X-Factor I#111 - BTS) - Lila figured this to be a token of their appreciation, but she instead found it to contain another of the diamond bombs. Guido absorbed the force of the explosion to save Lila, but he had a heart attack as a result of the stress on his system.

SECRET WARS III HAPPENED

(Unbeatable Squirrel Girl II#29 (fb) - BTS) - The K'lanti were blackmailed by a fake Silver Surfer and his two fellow space-hunks. The K'lanti complied with their demands.

(Unbeatable Squirrel Girl II#29) - The K'lanti joined a fleet of 76 extraterrestrial races to get revenge on the Silver Surfer.

(Unbeatable Squirrel Girl II#30) - After it became clear that the Silver Surfer that screwed them over was actually not the real Silver Surfer, the alliances between the 76 races crumbled and their grievances with other were reignited.

Squirrel Girl worked out a plan to fix the problems between the many races, including the problems the K'lanti had with the Badoon, Gloomgorians and others (Squirrel Girl's bushy tail was in the way).

Comments: Created by John Francis Moore, Todd Dezago, Jan Duursema, and Al Milgrom.

The K'lanti spoke their foreign language, and no direct translation was ever provided...we only got an idea from their actions and the responses of Lila to whatever they said to her.

As X-Factor I#111 used only capital letters in their dialogue and narrative/text boxes, it wasn't until Lila Cheney's Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe profile that we learned the correct spelling to be "K'lanti" with a lower case "l" (L).

The spelling "Jornick" is used in the very first reference, but he is consistently referred to as "Jornik" thereafter, so I believe that is the correct spelling.

CLARIFICATIONS:
The K'lanti should be distinguished from:

klanti_race-diamonds.jpgexploding diamonds

The K'lanti utilized diamonds that could explode with sufficient force to take out an entire city block.

The diamonds had a fail-safe built into them that would cause them to go into self-destruct mode if deviated from their respective axes by more than eight degrees

These were presumably stored aboard their ship and summoned as needed, but perhaps the K'lanti could simply create them at will.klanti_race-diamonds-launched

Their exact nature is unrevealed, but they seemed to me to be based on energy rather than machinery, but that's just my impression.

(X-Factor I#111) - Seeking to force the immediate return of the Harmonium, the K'lanti released a floating pink diamond, which subsequently detonated, taking out an entire city block in Madripoor. Note: It wasn't definitively stated, but I'm pretty certain Forge, Havok, and Wolfsbane took out the other diamonds before their teammates and Lila returned from Cygnus Prime.

klanti_race-harmonium-closeup.jpgklanti_race-harmonium-partial-clearer.jpgHarmonium

The Harmonium is a music-producing device treasured by the K'lanti.

Humming (and either flying under its own power or being levitated by the K'lanti), the Harmonium filled the air with a discordant music, playing a tune of repetitive measures in various octaves.

The K'lanti considered it the music of Heaven -- the song of the Angels -- a melody that would restore peace to a war-weary people.
    However,
the music was painful to some, such as the lupine-sensed Wolfsbane.

It is unrevealed whether the K'lanti created the Harmonium or whether they obtained it from another.

(X-Factor I#110 (fb) - BTS / X-Factor I#111 (fb) - BTS) - When the K'lanti were having a civil war, human mutant thief Lila Cheney stole their Harmonium music box, allegedly because she didn't want it to be destroyed in the war. She stored the Harmonium in her Dyson Sphere base.

(X-Factor I#110 (fb) - BTS) - Jornik raided Lila's Dyson sphere, stealing the Harmonium along with much of her equipment.

(X-Factor I#110 (fb) - BTS) - Jornik considered the Harmonium to be a worthless music box, a piece of junk.

(X-Factor I#110 (fb) - BTS / X-Factor I#111 (fb) - BTS) - When Jornik sold the Daedalus Wing to Balthazar of Cygnus Prime, he threw the Harmonium in with the deal.

Considering the Harmonium to be nonfunctional, Balthazar threw it out back in the garbage heap behind his Used Goods Emporium.

(X-Factor I#111 (fb) - BTS / X-Factor I#110) - Seeking to recover the Harmonium, the K'lanti trailed Lila Cheney and eventually caught up to her on Earth.

(X-Factor I#111 - BTS) - Explaining that she no longer had the Harmonium, Lila convinced the K'lanti to allow her to retrieve it. Lila then teleported herself Polaris (Lorna Dane) and Strong Guy (Guido Carosella) traveled to Cygnus Prime, traveling to Balthazar's Used Goods Emporium.

(X-Factor I#111) - Appreciating that the Harmonium's gears were metal, Polaris began to sift out all non-metallic stuff and then spread out whatever remained, at which point the guardian appeared and attacked Guido. As Guido occupied the creature, Lila located the Harmonium.

(X-Factor I#111) - As she returned the Harmonium to the K'lanti, Lila responded to whatever they stated, telling them she told them she would get it.

The K'lanti then summoned the Harmonium to them, and they considered its music to be the music of Heaven -- the song of the Angels -- a melody that would restore peace to a war-weary people.

Having regained the Harmonium, the K'lanti departed, leaving behind a box with Lila.
