History:
(Daredevil I#307 (fb) - BTS) - A new Jonin made plans to resurrect Izanami, which would increase his own mystic strength. Jonin formed an alliance with Baron Strucker.

(Daredevil I#309 (fb) - BTS) - Naomi Chu was an overweight Asian woman who enjoyed playing the slots in Las Vegas. Jonin planned to reanimate the essence of Izanami in her body.

(Daredevil I#307) - Jonin and the Hand summoned Izanami and reawakened her powers through the evils of Las Vegas, in the form of Naomi Chu. Some Hand members gave their lives to Izanami, and Jonin and Baron Strucker knew they were pleased.

(Nomad II#4) - Jonin, representing the Hand, attended the meeting of criminals in Las Vegas, as Troy Donahue arrived, representing Lotus. Other attendees included members of the Secret Empire, Andreas Strucker of Fenris, Werner von Strucker of Hydra, Justin Hammer, Mr. Tolliver, Tetsuo of the Yakuza, the Slug, and Tombstone and Hammerhead of the Maggia. A woman representing the Red Skull named the Word sought to divvy up the Kingpin's holdings between those present.

(Nomad II#5) - At the meeting, Jonin was accused by Hammerhead of having bullets fired at him, but the Red Skull's assistant worked hard to keep things going. Meanwhile, Nomad battled members of the Hand, killing them.

(Daredevil I#308 (fb) - BTS) - Jonin of the Hand and Tetsuo of the Yakuza formed an alliance.

(Daredevil I#308) - As the others heard about the alliance between the Hand and the Yakuza, Jonin watched more arguments and fights break out. Jonin later authorized members of the Hand to join the Yakuza (including Jackie) in battling Silvermane at a casino, but Daredevil interrupted the fight.

(Daredevil I#309) - Jonin, with Tetsuo of the Yakuza, watched as the various criminal factions argued and battled, breaking apart. Jonin explained to Izanami that she contained within her the power of the Beast that kept giving the Hand its mystic potential, but that she only had until midnight to purge the rest of her humanity out of her vessel or she would lose their power.

(Nomad II#6) - The Hand killed the Word, but Daredevil and Punisher attacked the ninjas, and Punisher gunned down the Jonin. As he fell dead, the ninjas all disintegrated.

The specifics around the Jonin were a bit difficult to understand. The Jonin may have been one person, a leader in a particular faction of the Hand, one obsessed with Izanami and the Great Beast; if so, Jonin continually rose from the dead. It's also possible that Jonin is a title within the Hand for the leader of a faction. Lastly, it is possible that, like Izanami, Jonin is some sort of mystic energy force that possesses mortals and takes over their forms after the death of a particular host, though this last scenario seems most unlikely. For the purpose of this profile, we are assuming the first option, that Jonin was one guy who kept rising from the dead, which means he could very well be alive out there.

The Jonin are the "high ninja" of the Hand (their leaders). Read the Shadowland crossover (especially the Ghost Rider one-shot) for a bit more information. There were many before this Jonin and probably a few since then.

According to the Hand's handbook bio there are five active Jonin at any one time. It's not 100% certain the one who worked with Kirigi was NOT the one who worked with Izanami, and the Hand can resurrect people, so Elektra slaying him wouldn't be a problem. And yes, they do look somewhat similar - stocky Japanese guys with dark hair and dark eyes. However, I believe that black hair and brown eyes is the norm for Japanese people. The Hand had the ability to resurrect the Kirigi Jonin, but the very fact he was such a coward makes me think they wouldn't have bothered. The Izanami Jonin certainly looks somewhat like him, but there's nothing in the stories I could find that suggests he had been resurrected - fwiw, I do think the DD #293 Jonin and the one in Dead Man's Hand were the same guy, as that guy had the power to resurrect others. The entry for Kirigi and Jonin in the Marvel Fact Files deemed the Jonin served by Izanami to be two different individuals with Marvel's approval.

Jackie

(Daredevil I#308) - In Las Vegas, Jackie was among the members of the Yakuza sent to fight Silvermane on behalf of his leader, Tetsuo. Allied with members of the Hand, Jackie saw Daredevil take out Silvermane, then Daredevil, on horseback, stopped Jackie and his allies form escaping in a car.
