History: (Team Darryl short film) - After Grandmaster's rule of the planet Sakaar ended in a revolution against him, the Grandmaster traveled to the city of Los Angeles on the planet Earth, where he answered a Craigslist ad by Darryl Jacobson, who was also looking for a housemate in a new city. Seeking to replace his late bodyguard Topaz, who had died during the Sakaaran rebellion, the Grandmaster picked Darryl to be his new assistant, making him dress in Topaz's armor and perform various chores for him. Upon learning about the Earth's culture, the Grandmaster took a liking to the planet and decided that he wanted to rule it. He had Darryl film a video of his address the people of Earth, but it failed to get any attention on Youtube. The Grandmaster then tried to get Darryl's friends to record some music for his next video, but it ended with him becoming frustrated and melting Darryl's friend David Richardson. Nevertheless, the Grandmaster remained confident in his ability to take over Earth and planned to have Darryl standing behind him during his eventual rule.

Comments: Created by Taika Waititi.

This version of Grandmaster appears in Team Darryl, a mockumentary short film available on the home video release of the film Thor: Ragnarok. It is a continuation of short films Team Thor and Team Thor: Part 2, which take place in a reality very similar to that of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (Earth-199999). There are, however, several differences between them, the most notable of which is Bruce Banner being still present on Earth during the conflict between Captain America/Steve Rogers and Iron Man/Tony Stark.

The Grandmaster's height is taken from Jeff Goldblum, the real-life actor who portrayed him.
