EARTH-839

Type: Alternate Earth;
Core Continuum Designation: Earth-839

Environment: Earth-like

Usual means of access: Magic, Vibrational attunement

Dominant Life Form: Humans

Population: Unrevealed

Significant Inhabitants: Princess Madonna, the Red Monarch, Captain U.K. (Linda McQuillan), Rick

First Mention: Excalibur I#44 (Late November, 1991)

History:

(Excalibur I#50 (fb)) - Long ago, the other-dimensional Sorcerer Supreme Necrom and his students Merlyn and Feron traveled to Earth-616 (later designated as the "prime Earth") as part of Necrom's plan to create a permanent energy matrix by aligning a series of dimensional interfaces across the multiverse. The interface on Earth-616 was "marked with a tower...erected to an elder god by a race that was ancient when Atlantis was young." At the moment of alignment, Feron called upon the celestial elemental now known as the Phoenix to project the essence of the tower through the Multiverse, thereby causing the tower to exist on every plane of its reality simultaneously. A version of this tower existed on Earth-839.

(Excalibur I#44 (fb) - BTS) - Far more recently, at some point after accomplishing the mission for which she and her husband Rick had been sent to Earth-794, Captain U.K. was reassigned to Earth-839. Rick presumably accompanied her to their new home (but this has not been confirmed).

(Excalibur I#45 (fb) - BTS) - At some point, either before or after Captain U.K. arrived on Earth-839, the Red Monarch stole the Crown Jewels. The stolen gems were later recovered under circumstances which have not yet been revealed.

(Excalibur I#45 (fb) - BTS) - As the date of Princess Madonna's coronation approached, the Red Monarch stole the Crown Jewels again.

(Excalibur I#45 - BTS) - On Otherworld, Captain U.K. told Captain Britain (Brian Braddock) that she would love to stay and explore with him but she should really head home because the Red Monarch had stolen the Crown Jewels again and she had to retrieve them before Princess Madonna's coronation in three days' time. Linda then used the dimensional interface to travel to Earth-839.

(Excalibur I#50 - BTS) - When Merlyn's tower on Otherworld was destroyed by Captain Britain and Meggan, the versions of that tower which existed on every plane of the Multiverse disintegrated as well (including the one on Earth-839).

Comments: Created by Alan Davis.

On Otherworld, Earth-839 had its own dimensional interface, one that was marked with its own stone circle (as opposed to a monolith or a tower). Presumably there was a similar stone circle on Earth-839 that marked that world's doorway to Otherworld, just as a stone circle located in Darkmoor, a desolate area in the north of England on Earth-616, also led to Otherworld. These two interfaces (and others) were separate and distinct from Merlyn's multiversal tower.

Captain U.K. (Linda McQuillan) and Rick were both born on Earth-238 but she was teleported to Earth-616 by her husband just as he was killed by the Fury, and Earth-238 and its entire reality were later destroyed by Mandragon to prevent the Jaspers Warp from spreading throughout the multiverse. Later, after Linda had helped destroy the Fury, Roma brought her to Otherworld and asked that she travel to "the Earth of Kaptain Briton" in order to stop the deranged Mastrex Opul Lun Sat-Yr-Nin from continuing to massacre her own people. When Linda agreed, Roma rewarded her by reaching back in time to the moment before Rick's death and changing history by saving him from the Fury and bringing him forward in time to Otherworld where he was very happily reunited with his wife. When they were last seen together (in 1986), Captain U.K. and Rick had succeeded in defeating and capturing Sat-Yr-Nin.

When Captain U.K. next appeared, five years later, in Excalibur I#44, she identified herself as being "assigned to Earth 839" and this led most readers to conclude that Earth-839 was the world which Sat-Yr-Nin had ruled. However, the idea that a "Princess Madonna" could have been part of the Empire of True Briton seemed unlikely. This apparent inconsistency was resolved in Excalibur I#56 when Captain Britain (Brian Braddock) identified Sat-Yr-Nin's homeworld as being Earth-794.

The fact that Linda McQuillan retained her "Captain U.K." code-name after relocating to Earth-839 suggests that a version of the United Kingdom existed on that world. However, the exact name that was abbreviated to "U.K." may have been somewhat different, like "Unified Kingdom."

Clarifications:
Earth-839 has no known specific connections to

Princess Madonna from Earth-839 has no known connections to

The Red Monarch from Earth-839 has no known connections to

Princess Madonna

Princess Madonna is a member of a royal family that exists on Earth-839. The fact that Captain U.K. was tasked to retrieve the stolen Crown Jewels indicates that Princess Madonna belongs to that Earth's British royal family, and the fact that she was about to be crowned meant that the previous monarch had recently either died or abdicated. However, the actual name of the country which is that Earth's version of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland has not been revealed and the name of the royal house may (or may not) be the House of Windsor. Similarly, the full name of the stolen regalia may be the Crown Jewels of the United Kingdom or the Crown Jewels of England or the Crown Jewels of [some alternative name] (like Albion or Anglia or Britannia or Britain or Briton or other, less traditional, names).

Since very little has been revealed about the civilization that exists on Earth-839, much about Princess Madonna's life and the royal family to which she belongs is currently a mystery. For example, her being the heir apparent means that she was either the daughter of the previous king, the daughter of the previous queen regnant, or the niece of the childless previous king or queen. However, without more information, it is impossible to know which of these lines of succession is the correct one.

Red Monarch

The Red Monarch is a criminal known to be active on Earth-839 and to have stolen the Crown Jewels of a certain sovereign country on (at least) two separate occasions. However, although many details about this criminal's life are known to Captain U.K., the authorities and the general public who reside on that Earth, none of those details have yet been revealed to other-dimensional researchers. Accordingly, this sub-profile cannot accurately disclose ANYTHING more about this thief, not even his or her gender, let alone his/her real name or criminal history.

So, I guess that's it for this sub-profile.
