History:
(Daredevil I#252 (fb) - BTS) - Cain lived in New York City, where he enjoyed dressing in a leather jacket. Accustomed to a hard life, he formed a bond with Matt Murdock, a former attorney who worked providing legal advice to others. Cain saw a goodness in Matt and began to see him as a father figure. One day, while hanging out on his fire escape, Cain saw a woman beating her child. He watched the woman for a time, fascinated, before finally intervening.

(Daredevil I#252) - Cain rushed the boy into the legal clinic where Matt worked, seeking to get him help. As Karen Page and Black Widow tended to the boy, Cain explained what had happened, and he worried that there was a darkness inside of him. Matt comforted Cain, then got good news about a legal battle he'd been fighting. When the city underwent a blackout during a super-villain attack, Matt got Cain and the others to safety in a hospital, but Cain was panicking, feeling like he could die at any moment; Matt comforted Cain, inspiring him to go and help others. Cain distributed pills to the wounded, and was disturbed when one woman, who had lost a leg, just wanted to die, and Cain gave her the pills to do so. When Ammo's mob attacked, Ammo opened fire on the crowd, killing and wounding civilians and his own men, and Cain panicked, trying to help but overwhelmed by the blood and violence. After Ammo was defeated by Daredevil, Cain was listless, not knowing what to do and he wondered aloud if the civilians should get to beat up one of Ammo's female mob members. Cain apologized to Daredevil for his thoughts of violence, then held a gun on the girl while the police began to clean things up. Realizing that the world wasn't ending, Cain began to realize he had helped a woman die, but before he could say anything, the girl he held the gun on drew a knife and stabbed him in the abdomen. As Cain lay dying, he asked Daredevil to tell Matt that he'd been like a father to Cain, and said to tell him he'd been a good soldier, though he didn't want Matt to know about the woman he had helped die.
