During the battle, the fleet-footed Hermes was the first to strike, followed Artemis and Poseidon with their arrows and trident, respectively. Athena and Hercules then followed suit with Zeus delivering the final blow that killed the Amphisbaena. Following the Amphisbaena's death, the Olympians celebrated on Olympus for days

(In Greek myth), the Amphisbaena wasn't a giant two-headed snake. It's a reference to the snakes that sprang from the severed neck of Medusa after she was beheaded by Perseus, but it seems to be an allegory for maggots just as "turning men to stone" refers to rigor mortis. They fed on dead bodies (again, like maggots). Roman Statesman Cato described them in the First Millennium BC during his march. There is an actual type of legless lizard (also known as "worm lizards") called amphisbaena. -Thor2000
