History: (Uncanny X-Men I#210 (fb) - BTS) - Richard Salmons was good at his job as a Hellfire Club guard. He was known to be ambitious and had great prospects for the future. When the murderous Marauders began hunting the former Morlock Tommy, Richard Salmons rescued the Morlock girl Tommy in Los Angeles, California and the two began dating. In an effort to further escape the Marauders, Richard and Tommy stayed on the move.

(Uncanny X-Men I#210) - When the Morlocks caught up to Tommy, Richard was hit by an energized harpoon hurled by the Marauder called Harpoon. As he lay dying, his Morlock girlfriend Tommy watched in horror. Thinking him already dead, Tommy yelled out in mourning but the weak Richard grunted that he wasn't dead yet. He then asked Tommy to hand him his gun, hoping that by staying together, they both had a chance to survive. Unfortunately, Tommy was too terrified to do as Richard asked and ran off in horror, leaving Richard begging for her help. Realizing that the harpoon affected his nervous system, the nearly paralyzed Richard continued to try to reach his gun but the Marauder Scalphunter stepped on Richard's arm, preventing him from reaching the gun. Richard informed Scalphunter that if he was killed, his employers in the Hellfire Club would pay the Marauders back in kind but Scalphunter merely replied that they were welcome to try before shooting Richard dead, a shot overheard by Tommy, who still running not far away. Tommy managed to hitch a ride on a passing train, where she thought about how kind Richard had been to her and expressed guilt for leaving him behind. Later, when Tommy got off the train in New York and fled into the former Morlock tunnels, the Marauders cornered her and Scalphunter remarked that Tommy should have listened to her Hellfire Club boyfriend and stayed together.
