(Kid from Texas#2/5 (fb) - BTS) - Aged 28, Matt Ross
was elected sheriff of the peaceful small town of Twin Rivers, its
youngest ever, due partly to the low wage offered. However, news of a
brutal outlaw, Blackie Harper, in the region raised concern amongst the
townsfolk that a more experienced sheriff with a much higher salary
would have been a better option.
(Kid from Texas#2/5) - Ross' response during a public
meeting to news of Harper in the region showed his lack of confidence
in fulfilling the job. Shopkeeper Pop Peter reassured Ross when he
overheard citizens openly voicing discontent. Admitting to Pop he was
scared, Ross returned to his office and was alerted by boy Johnny White
that Harper was robbing Pop. The sheriff immediately took up his
gunbelt to tackle Harper and rode to the shop. Ross shot the gun out of
Harper's hand when he refused arrest, dodging a thrown barrel before
punching Harper out. As Ross led Harper away to a cell, the citizens
were impressed with Ross' skill and bravery, quickly agreeing to Pop's
suggestion that Ross receive a big wage raise. When several townsfolk
saw a Wanted poster for another fierce outlaw, they voiced confidence
that Ross could protect them.

Tex Murdock was seen only on a Wanted poster.

Matt Ross has no known connections to:
Blackie Harper was a brutal criminal with a $1,500
dead-or-alive bounty on his head. The townsfolk of Twin Rivers openly
stated that their inexperienced lawman Matt Ross was no match for the
outlaw and Harper himself felt the high bounty deterred people from
chasing him. Harper rode into the quiet town and stopped to rob the
provision shop of Pop Peter, almost taking child Johnny White hostage,
but the boy escaped to inform Ross. The sheriff quickly arrived; Harper
drew his gun on him, but Ross shot the gun out of his hand. Harper then
threw a barrel at Ross, who then punched him down. Harper was led away
to a cell by Ross.
