History: (Captain America: Patriot#2 (fb), BTS) -  Proletariat was partnered with Red Guardian, the counterpoint to the American hero Bucky, Captain America's sidekick. In September 1946 a Russian spy was working at the Harwell Atomic Energy Research Facility in Oxford, England, under the guise of atomic scientist Dr. Klaus Fuchs. British intelligence began suspecting his true status and that he was passing on atomic secrets, but needed time to make their case. The Russians sent in a deliberately high profile squad of super-powered Soviet soldiers, including Proletariat, to "kidnap him," either extracting him, or, if they failed to do so, to at least throw suspicion off him. Catching wind of the abduction, and with Britain's own heroes otherwise occupied, British authorities called in the All-Winners Squad, who took on the Soviet team as they attempted to escape with their "prisoner."

(Captain America: Patriot #2) - As the two teams fought, Bucky clashed with Proletariat, though Bucky briefly broke off their conflict to come to his partner's assistance against the Red Guardian. When the Whizzer escaped with Fuchs, Red Guardian angrily noted that the mission had been ruined and ordered Night Witch to get them out of there. As she fired dark energy from her gun to opened the "People's Portal," Proletariat got in one final blow against Bucky before he and his team vanished.

Comments: Created by Karl Kesel (writer) and Mitch Breitweiser (art).

He was a Soviet agent, but not necessarily Russian; he could have been from anywhere behind the Iron Curtain. Karl Kesel confirmed his codename and that he was Red Guardian's sidekick and an opposite number to Bucky; the codename was subsequently revealed in Red Guardian's handbook entry in OHOTMU Update#4. Given he was Lebedev's sidekick, it's feasible he was also his successor - could Proletariat be Alexi Shostakov, the Red Guardian who was Black Widow (Natasha Romanoff)'s husband? Or maybe this is a young Albert Malik, the future Soviet Red Skull! He's certainly around the right age to be either of them.
