History:

(Deadpool: Too Soon? Infinite Comic#7 (fb) - BTS) - The ancient shadow-demon Paen-Umbra was smitten with the demon Queen Shiklah. Even though she frequently turned the demon down, he would continue to try and woo her.

(Deadpool: Too Soon? Infinite Comic#8 (fb) - BTS) - Over time, Pean-Umbra destroyed many villages and even slaughtered angels in his attempts to woo Shiklah. When Shiklah complained about Gryleth's singing giving her a headache, the eager to please Paen-Umbra carved out his larynx with a fork.

(Deadpool: Too Soon? Infinite Comic#7 (fb) - BTS) - Learning Shiklah was romantically involved with Deadpool he decided to kill him and his friends.

(Deadpool: Too Soon? Infinite Comic#1 - BTS) - Dressed in his black costume, Paen-Umbra appeared in the mansion on Long Island where Deadpool and his wife Shiklah had been staying. Deadpool had gathered an odd group of heroes and tried to blackmail them into posing for his Christmas pictures. When he told Shiklah to turn off the lights to take the perfect photograph, Paen-Umbra seized his opportunity and struck. Forbush Man was the first to die, his head lobbed off while everybody posed for the picture. Paen-Umbra instantly vanished, so no one was the wiser when Queen Shiklah turned the lights back on. Unaware of Paen-Umbra's presence Deadpool considered all people present possible suspects.

(Deadpool: Too Soon? Infinite Comic#3) - Determined to kill everyone else associating with Shiklah, Paen-Umbra followed Rocket Raccoon and Groot to Muir Woods in San Francisco. Paen-Umbra hid in the bushes while Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Squirrel Girl and Deadpool fought Squirrelpool, a clone of both Squirrel Girl and Deadpool. When only Groot and Rocket Raccoon were left behind, Paen-Umbra jumped out of the bushes and decapitated Rocket Raccoon after which he threw Groot in a woodchipper, killing them both.

(Deadpool: Too Soon? Infinite Comic#4) - Paen-Umbra next traveled to Miami where he decapitated Ant-Man.

(Deadpool: Too Soon? Infinite Comic#7 (fb) - BTS / Deadpool: Too Soon? Infinite Comic#4 - BTS) - Paen-Umbra delivered several bags of his fan-mail to Queen Shiklah which she burned in the fireplace.

(Deadpool: Too Soon? Infinite Comic#5 (fb) - BTS) - As a way to torture Deadpool, Paen-Umbra put both Rocket's and Ant-Man's head in a basket, adding a file containing the remains of Groot. He delivered the basket to Queen Shiklah's address.

(Deadpool: Too Soon? Infinite Comic#5) - Back at the Long Island mansion Paen-Umbra noticed the sudden arrival of Howard the Duck and Deadpool who sought out the help of Doctor Strange. Paen-Umbra approached the threesome from behind wielding two swords.

(Deadpool: Too Soon? Infinite Comic#6) - Paen-Umbra leaped towards the heroes with his two swords, however, Doctor Strange quickly called forth a magic staff to fend off the demon. Unnable to break the staff with his two swords, Paen-Umbra grew an extra arm with another sword prompting Deadpool to yell if he wanted a sword fight. Unimpressed by Deadpool, Paen-Umbra simply grew nine more arms carrying similar blades. Doctor Strange realized they were outmatched and quickly used a spell to teleport the threesome back to his Sanctum Sanctorum.

(Deadpool: Too Soon? Infinite Comic#7) - Paen-Umbra managed to track down the heroes to an abandoned secret base of the Avengers hidden beneath the Manhattan subway. Wasting no time Paen-Umbra appeared from the shadows and decapitated both Squirrel Girl's partner Tippy-Toe and her roommate Nancy Whitehead. He then faced the other heroes; Deadpool, Squirrel Girl, Punisher and Squirrelpool. Paen-Umbra easily held all of them at bay after which he tried to decapitate Squirrel Girl. He was stopped by Squirrelpool who threw Paen-Umbra into the malfunctioning teleporting machine, sending him to parts unknown.

(Deadpool: Too Soon? Infinite Comic#7 - BTS) - Queen Shiklah told Deadpool she knew who was killing their friends and revealed Paen-Umbra's identity.

(Deadpool: Too Soon? Infinite Comic#8) - All the remaining living heroes (Deadpool, Doctor Strange, Howard the Duck, Punisher, Spider-Ham, Squirrel Girl, Squirrelpool) assembled back at the Long Island mansion to stop the madness once and for all. Doctor Strange used his magic abilities to summon Paen-Umbra, who was pleased to see all his targets gathered in one place. But before Paen-Umbra could act he was trapped against a wall by Spider-Ham's quick-drying cement webbing. The shadow-demon retaliated by firing his own razor-sharp webbing, slicing Spider-Ham to pieces and leaving him for dead. Punisher opened fire on the demon but wound up freeing him when he destroyed Spider-Ham's cement-webbing. Paen-Umbra thanked Castle by firing back lethal, black bullets. However, when Paen-Umbra tried to kill Howard the Duck, a magic spell courtesy of Doctor Strange trapped him inside a green bubble. Although he was captured, Paen-Umbra was confident they still couldn't harm him after which Queen Shiklah showed up. The regal Shiklah ordered him to take off his ridiculous black costume, which he immediately did, revealing his new, muscular physique. Paen-Umbra continued to hit on Shiklah even though she clearly wasn't interested. Fed up, Deadpool took his sword and cut off Paen-Umbra's ball, neutering the demon. Deadpool then held his sword to the demon's throat threatening to kill and cut of his head unless he would bring back everyone he had killed. Paen-Umbra gave in and resurrected his victims. To celebrate the fact his friends were back from the dead, 'Pool threw a dinner party that very night. During the meal, he thanked those present for their friendship, even Paen-Umbra was present though tied with magical chains. Before they could eat, the actual owners of Deadpool's mansion came home.

Comments: Created by Joshua Corin (writer), Todd Nauck (pencils), Reilly Brown (pencils, inks).

The name "Paen-Umbra" is obviously inspired by the term "penumbra", which is a fancy word for half shadow. With a name like that, it's obvious the shadow demon would wear an all black outfit. Though given his penchant for murder, death and destruction his name might as well have been spelled "pain-umbra".

The events of Deadpool: Too Soon? were first published as a digital infinite comic and later appeared in print form between December 2016 and March 2017.
