History:

(Human Fly I#1 (fb)) - The Mercenary and his gang hijacked a Columbia Air Lines Boeing 747 jet headed for Houston from New York. The plane was packed with journalists, including Peter Parker (Spider-Man). The Mercenary demanded five million dollars in cash and safe passage to Mexico or he would let the plane run out of fuel and crash. On the ground, stuntman the Human Fly was readying for his premiere performance before the assembled press when he was told about the hijacked plane circling Houston. He and his crew immediately flew up in his jet-copter to intercept the plane.

(Human Fly I#1) - The Human Fly clambered onto the plane's fuselage. The Mercenary, suspecting interference, fired into the ceiling, but the Human Fly was able to board the aircraft and knocked out several henchman with the aid of Spider-Man. Panicked, the Mercenary donned his secret jet-pack and jumped out the blown door, but with the Human Fly clinging to his leg. He fired his gun at the stuntman, but the Human Fly was able to knock out the hijacker. The jet-pack's blast forced the stuntman to let go and the unconscious Mercenary landed on the ground, his jet-pack evidently out of fuel. He was arrested and presumably incarcerated.
