History:

(Morbius the Living Vampire#2 (fb) - BTS) - Butler was divorced from his wife.

(Morbius the Living Vampire#2 (fb) - BTS) - At some point Butler gained connections to the CIA.

(Morbius the Living Vampire#2) - Detective Butler and his partner were called to the murder scene of Dr. Langford and agents of Dr. Paine. He wasn't thrilled about the vampire killings and after looking at the photographs for awhile in his office reported the killings to the CIA, who called Stroud.

(Morbius the Living Vampire#3 (fb)) - Butler and his partner were called to the finding place of Dick Packer's corpse, which Morbius threw from the Daily Bugle building in front of Peter Parker. They recognized Parker's name as the photographer of many Spider-Man pictures. Peter left before they asked too many questions.

Butler took the vampire killing files from his office and handed it over to Stroud at a bar.

(Morbius the Living Vampire#10/2 (fb) - BTS) - Stroud had Butler paid by the CIA through one of his inside men.

(Morbius the Living Vampire#4) - Butler received a call from Stroud again to gain more info, but Butler didn't want to endanger his job again. His partner told him about a new victim shortly after. This victim was torn to pieces and partially eaten (by Basilisk). Butler and his partner arrived at the crime scene shortly after.

(Morbius the Living Vampire#6 - BTS) - Stroud called Butler, who told him about a benefactor paying for Martine Bancroft's funeral. He was asked to fax the info he had to Stroud and to destroy it afterward.

(Morbius the Living Vampire#8) - Butler and his partner accompanied a wounded murderer of three kids to St. Jude's Hospital. Butler didn't want to let him out of sight. Butler's partner saw Vic Slaughter in a bed nearby and thought he looked like another vampire killer victim. Butler heard Slaughter whisper Morbius and wondered where he had heard this name before. The killer Butler came with to the hospital died shortly after under the hands of Dr. Morgan Michaels and another doctor. Butler wanted to know if he had regained consciousness to tell who he was working for, but he didn't, meaning Butler and his partner wouldn't learn who he was working for. Butler then asked the doctors if the name Morbius meant anything to them and the second doctor (not Michaels, duh) told him that Morbius was once a famous scientist. The info helped Butler to remember Dr. Michael Morbius. Dr. Michaels walked away telling Butler that Morbius was supposedly dead.

(Morbius the Living Vampire#10/2) - Butler was angry on the phone because paperwork kept him off the street when CIA Agents Barrett and China visited his office to ask him about his connection to Simon Stroud. When Butler pretended to not even know Stroud, Barrett hit his head on a desk and told him Stroud's history with the CIA. They asked him to aid them in catching Stroud and Slaughter. Butler gave in when they threatened him.

(Morbius the Living Vampire#11/2) - Butler was with Barrett and China in his office when Stroud called him to inform Butler about Morbius' secret identity as Dr. Morgan Michaels at St. Jude's Hospital. Stroud set up a meeting with Butler at the office and Butler was late. They stormed Dr. Michaels' office where Barrett and China were already waiting for them with Michaels. Stroud took Butler hostage and shot Michaels. Outside the police had surrounded the building. Stroud shot three officers before Morbius came down from the sky to save Butler from Stroud. When Stroud was arrested Butler wondered if he wasn't insane and actually the only guy capable of taking down Morbius.

Comments: Created by Doug Moench (writer), George Tuska (pencils) & Vince Colletta (inks).

Unlike others Butler didn't know that Dr. Morgan Michaels was actually Michael Morbius or at least he didn't believe in it after learning it from Stroud because China and Barrett had convinced him that Stroud was just crazy.
