History:

(Astonishing#3/1 (fb) - BTS) - Omar Khayam Rasch established the Cult Omar where he preyed on the wealthy to sign over their life insurance benefits to him, only to have them mysteriously die soon after.

(Astonishing#3/1) - Increasing insurance payouts to Omar prompted Bob Grayson to investigate the case as Marvel Boy. He was greeted by Suraf, Omar's servant, with Omar's voice booming out from hidden speakers, recognizing Marvel Boy. Grayson duped Omar into believing he was interested in joining the cult and Omar welcomed him into the "Shrine of Allah" with other followers. Noxious fumes overpowered the followers in the subsequent ritual, with the momentary lapse of consciousness meant to signify acceptance by the "gods of death". Omar ushered Marvel Boy aside and requested funds for his cult, but Grayson could only offer to make Omar the beneficiary in a fake life insurance policy instead. Later, Omar announced that the widow Jane Dumont was selected by a prophet spirit as the next to die by Allah's apparent will, and she soon after died of fright. Omar then sought money from Grayson, using a magic trick of smoke and spirit writing to convince the hero to stay.

Omar planned to kill Marvel Boy next, but the hero was informed of Omar's poisoned wine and he took an antidote to counter it. Grayson pretended to die from the poisoned wine given to him by Omar, who then commanded Suraf to put him in a casket for that night's service. However, Marvel Boy instead played a ghost rising from the open coffin, which resulted in Omar running away scared into the arms of the assembled police. "Mr. Death" was then arrested on various charges.
