History:

(Daredevil I#47 (fb) - BTS) - A police officer, Willie Lincoln was suspended from the police force for taking a bribe, a story given by witness Whitey Barton, but Willie knew he was framed. He believed that mobster Biggie Benson was behind it, but had no proof. He chose to enter the military and was soon deployed to Viet Nam.

(Daredevil I#258 (fb)) - Lincoln joined a group of soldiers on a mission in Nam, including Samuel Birulin, Joshua Cooper, Carl Brasel, Michael Janes, Chin Fong, and William Talltrees. The soldiers panicked when they thought they were in danger and started killing several innocents in a village. Janes, who was known for insanity, nearly killed a helpless old man when a bomb was tossed into the town. Lincoln was wounded and started to go blind from the explosion. The soldiers fought their way to the evacuation unit, where James Rhodes got them out, but a small boy followed them, holding on to the helicopter. A stray shot hit his leg and James kicked the boy free, knocking him to the ground.

(Daredevil I#47 (fb) - BTS) - The doctors told him there was no hope that his eyes would improve and that it would continually get worse.

(Daredevil I#47 (fb)) - Sam led Willie through the crowd at the military camp to see a special performance by Daredevil. Willie was excited that, though his vision was getting blurry, he would get to see Daredevil live once. During the performance, Willie went completely blind. He panicked and collapsed, awakening later in the hospital. He was thrilled to get a visit from Daredevil and they talked about Willie's future. Daredevil gave Willie hope that his life would go better, and told Willie to look up a lawyer named Matt Murdock when he got back to the states. Murdock questioned both Benson and Barton in court and managed to clear Lincoln's name.

(Daredevil I#47) - Willie found out from the police captain that there were no positions left for him, and Willie was advised to get a lawyer. He visited Murdock's office and explained to Karen Page his situation. Murdock agreed to take the case and, within weeks, cleared Willie's name by tricking Barton to expose Benson. Willie thanked Murdock, but still felt there was little hope for him until he learned Murdock was blind as well and had made such a success of himself. When Benson's men attacked again, Lincoln hid in the closet while Daredevil, who'd suddenly arrived, fought off the villains, though Willie's dog helped as well. Willie felt like he might have a chance after all.

(Daredevil I#49 (fb) - BTS) - Willie got a job at the urban corps, acting as a liaison between the cops and the "soul brothers". He felt that Daredevil somehow helped him get the job.

(Daredevil I#49) - While walking with his seeing eye dog, Willie heard a conflict and stopped to help a fallen man, soon discovering it to be Matt Murdock. Willie helped Murdock inside and officially thanked him for his help before leaving.

(Daredevil I#59 (fb)) - While doing investigative work for the police department, Lincoln, feeling a bit sorry for himself, accidentally leaned against a door and fell down a long tunnel. He accidentally stumbled onto the Crime-Wave's operation, where gunned men, including Barney, held him at gunpoint. They realized he was blind and let him go free.

(Daredevil I#57) - Lincoln went to district attorney Franklin "Foggy" Nelson for help in taking down Crime-Wave. Nelson recalled his secretary, Karen Page, off her vacation.

(Daredevil I#58) - Lincoln watched as Murdock and Nelson convicted one of Crime-Wave's men, Stunt-Master, to jail.

(Daredevil I#59) - Lincoln, Page, Murdock, and Nelson continued discussing plans to take down Crime-Wave, planning to use Lincoln as their star witness. Lincoln was taken to a seedy hotel for protection against Crime-Wave, but his room was attacked by the villainous Torpedo, who knocked out Lincoln and his guards with knockout gas. Lincoln woke up to hear a battle between Torpedo and Daredevil moving to the roof. Fumbling, he followed and managed to save Daredevil by tackling Crime-Wave. Daredevil caught Lincoln while Torpedo fell and died on the ground.

(Daredevil I#258) - (Daredevil I#258) - Overcome with memories of the war, Lincoln, with his companion dog Nugget, called Birulin in Seattle, where he was sleeping with his wife. Birulin answered just as Bengal attacked him, choking him with the phone cord and stabbing him to death. Lincoln heard a Vietnamese voice on the phone and felt vulnerable. He sought out Murdock the next day, seeking Daredevil's help. They learned that Chin Fong had been killed in Hong Kong. Bengal attacked Lincoln that night and Daredevil fought him off, then demanded answers from Lincoln, who tearfully remembered their experiences in Nam. Daredevil soon defeated Bengal in combat, then took him inside to look into Lincoln's eyes. Realizing Lincoln was innocent, Bengal departed and was believed dead.
