"CYBER-SANTA"

Classification: Terrestrial technology

Creator: Unrevealed (see comments)

User/Possessors: Unidentified faction of Hydra agents

First Appearance: Marvel Holiday Special 2006/2 (February, 2007)

Powers/Abilities/Functions: Standing about 30 feet tall, the robotic "Cyber-Santa" was a walking juggernaut with great strength. Built in the traditional colors and form of Santa Claus, its hues were altered with a chromatic modulator to the green-and-yellow of the criminal Hydra organization; its "face" could also reconfigure to take on a more frightening appearance.

History:

(Marvel Holiday Special 2006/2) - During Christmas season, a faction of Hydra agents (disguised as elves) drove "Cyber-Santa" on the back of a flat-bed truck into New York's Times Square. The giant robot was activated, its appearance was altered, and it began its rampage of destruction; fortunately, Dr. Strange's manservant Wong and the dragon Fin Fang Foom happened to be in the area. After a brief battle with the Hydra troopers, the  two heroes commandeered the truck, rammed it into the back of "Cyber-Santa's" right leg, and toppled the mechanical behemoth to the street; but the gargantuan automaton was still active, so Foom sneezed some flames into the truck's fuel tank, which caused an explosion that subsequently destroyed "Cyber-Santa".

Comments: Created by Scott Gray (writer) and Roger Langridge (artist).

And then Wong and Foom were once again surrounded by the Hydra troopers, but another rival faction of the subversive organization appeared, who were plotting to launch their own attack with anti-matter tinsel. A gang-war erupted between the two groups, with Wong and Foom retreating until S.H.I.E.L.D. arrived to apprehend the few surviving villains.

A giant Santa robot and anti-matter tinsel?!  Sounds like maybe Dr. Tannenbaum could be working some overtime and building weapons for Hydra.

This story took place after Fin Fang Foom was reduced to human-size @ Fin Fang Four#1--had he been at his normal stature, he probably wouldn't have had as much trouble dealing with "Cyber-Santa". (BTW - It was never actually called "Cyber-Santa" in the story, that's just a name I came up with to identify it.)

This story was later reprinted in Fin Fang Four Return!#1/6, which is where the images are from.

And a BIG Thank You to James Sharpe for the scans!
