CU SITH

Classification: Demon; likely connection to Tuatha Da Danaan (Celtic pantheon)

Location/Base of Operations: An unnamed dimension (likely Otherworld)

Known Members: Names unrevealed

Affiliations: Bastet (see comments)

Enemies: Fenris Wolf, Kasha, Okami, Jack Russell (Werewolf), X-Factor Investigations (Longshot, Madrox, Layla Miller, Rictor, Shatterstar, Siryn, Strong Guy, Wolfsbane (Rahne Sinclair))

First Appearance: X-Factor III#221 (August, 2011)

Powers/Abilities: Fast and agile despite their size, Cu Sith have acidic saliva. While one creature can be killed, its blood can form new hounds that grow very rapidly to full size, but only if that blood is spilled by metallic weapons; they are still susceptible to tooth and claw. Being magical in nature, they can be barred entry to buildings by salt. Sonic blasts do not affect them.

Traits: Cu Sith are fearless, large wolf-like creatures with similar traits to wild dogs in that they are loyal and savagely focused on tasks. They have dark natures and an easy disposition to killing.

Cu Sith blood begets more hounds

History:

(X-Factor III#221 (fb) - BTS) - Bastet and Cu Sith hounds used the ghost of Feral to find Rahne Sinclair, who was pregnant to the wolf prince Hrimhari of the Norse. Feral served as an anchor between dimensions that allowed the Cu Sith to cross over.

(X-Factor III#221) - One Cu Sith hound attacked Shatterstar and Sinclair, who were on their way back to X-Factor Investigations HQ. Shatterstar sliced its head off with a blade, but two new bodies formed and gave chase. Bastet leapt in, stopping Shatterstar and Sinclair, but was in turn attacked by two other wolfen creatures: Okami and Kasha. Bastet called out to her hounds, who jumped in and defended her.

(X-Factor III#222) - Shatterstar and Sinclair made it back to their HQ with a pursuing Cu Sith hound blocked from entering by the salt and sigils prepared by Layla Miller. Longshot then threw blades that killed the hound, but released much blood from which more hounds were generated. The hounds were unable to gain entry and pulled back when Strong Guy and M arrived. Bastet attacked them, joined by Cu Sith plus new hounds still rising from the spilled blood. They mocked Siryn's sonic attack and declared they could pierce Sinclair's magical invulnerability. Jack Russell suddenly leapt in to defend her, killing many Cu Sith and scattering the other foes.

(X-Factor III#224) - While Sinclair finally gave birth, Fenris Wolf savaged many Cu Sith demon dogs in the chaotic fight between the assembled forces until mystical energies generated by Hel converged that explosively banished all the mythic creatures.

Although dubbed a goddess, the Bastet in this storyline bears little resemblance to the Bast(et) also known as the Panther God of Black Panther fame, so I have not linked the profiles. This one is distinctly female, sandy in color with an animalistic head, morphing from humanoid form to an elongated lioness.

Here's some Wikipedia info on the real mythological beasties called Cù Sìth.
