History: (Amazing Spider-Girl#3 (fb) ) - As a girl, Betty Frost was abused by her widowed father.

(Amazing Spider-Girl#3 (fb) ) - As a teenager, Betty enterered into a relationship with Wayne, who frequently beat her.  Social worker Caitlan Leiber tried to convince her to leave him, but she wouldn't; burdened with other cases, Leiber didn't follow up on it.

(Amazing Spider-Girl#3) - Years later, Wayne's abuse had intensified; one night, he beat Betty so badly that she fled their tenement to hide in an abandoned factory, where old canisters of industrial chemicals leaked and mutrated her, giving her superhuman cold powers.

(Amazing Spider-Girl#3) - Now calling herself Bitter Frost, Betty tracked down and murdered her father.  She then set her sights on Leiber, who had become the administrator of the St. Andrew's Shelter for abused women.  As she began to freeze her, St. Andrew's volunteer May Parker arrived; Bitter Frost mistook her for a resident and left, unwilling to harm a fellow victim, but warned Parker to stay away from Leiber.  That night, she found Wayne, but was again interrupted before she could kill him - first by Leiber, and then by NYPD detective Vinnie Drasco.  As Wayne escaped, she assaulted the new arrivals with icy winds, but soon Spider-Girl arrived as well, although her web-shooters' triggers broke off in the intense cold.  As Spider-Girl pulled Leiber away from a barrage of icicles, Drasco hit Bitter Frost with a plank; the plank froze and shattered, knocking over Wayne's propane heater.  It exploded, and the intense heat reverted Bitter Frost back to human form.  Spider-Girl swung Forest, Drasco, and Leiber out of the burning tenement.  Later, Forest was taken away in an ambulance.

Comments: Created by Tom DeFalco, Ron Frenz, and Sal Buscema.

Given her name, powers, and attire, I wonder if Bitter Frost is a partial homage to DC's Killer Frost.

Profile by Minor Irritant.
