AMEBIDs
(Balenus jelafus)

Classification: Cephalopod-like extraterrestrial race

Location/Base of Operations: Every known region of Sakaar, fourth planet from the star Tayo (a grouping of eight major heavenly bodies that comprise the star system Tayo) in the Fornax galaxy

Known Members: None identified

Affiliations: Some enslaved by the Sakaarian Imperials, used against the Fillians

First Appearance: Incredible Hulk III#92 (April, 2006); (identified) Planet Hulk: Gladiator Guidebook (2006)

Powers/Abilities: Amebids can inflate their bodies with the noxious waste gases they excrete, enabling them to float in the lower atmosphere. Drifting slowly through the skies, the Amebids change direction by subtly shifting the weight of their six prehensile tentacles that drift from their bodies. These tentacles are also used to collect airborne microscopic organisms, which the Amebids filter through the rows of tiny, baleen-like, keratinized structures that adorn the opening to their oral cavities. Four of their tentacles taper slowly to a tip, while the two others have more of a serrated type of fin at the end. Amebids lack any natural defense mechanisms.
They were originally a sea-dwelling species, but it is unrevealed whether they can still survive underwater.

Traits: An animal-species, Amebids float along and consume microscopic organisms. They nest and lay eggs within unspecified mountain peaks.

They are sometimes used as unwitting weapons by Imperial forces, who strap explosives to them and direct them towards Fillian encampments on suicide missions.

Type: Cephalopods (not quite radially symmetric, as they have a face with eyes, etc. all facing one direction)
Eyes:
Two (on head)
Fingers:
None
Toes:
None
Skin color: Orange-red
Average height: ??? (I don't have good enough scale to identify this)

History:
(Planet Hulk: Gladiator Guidebook: Sakaar: Wildlife: Amebids) - Native to Sakaar, as a sea-dwelling life form, the defenseless Amebids were easy prey for the carnivorous aquatic beasts inhabiting Sakaar's oceans and seas.

(Planet Hulk: Gladiator Guidebook: Sakaar: Wildlife: Amebids) -  Over the millennia, the Amebids adapted and developed the ability to inflate their bodies with the noxious waste gases they excreted, becoming balloon-like flyers who thrived in Sakaar's lower atmosphere. They came to inhabit nearly every known region of Sakaar, from the deserts to the urban jungles.

(Planet Hulk: Gladiator Guidebook: Sakaar: Wildlife: Amebids) -  The Imperials began using Amebids in their war against the Fillians, strapping the unwitting animals with explosives and directing them towards the Fillian encampments on suicide missions.

(Planet Hulk: Gladiator Guidebook: Sakaar: Wildlife: Amebids) - The Ambed

(Incredible Hulk III#92) - Amebids floated in the sky as the Hulk arrived through the Great Portal wormhole.

(Incredible Hulk III#93) - An Amebid floated in the sky outside a cavern in which the Sakaarian Democratic Insurgency (or perhaps another group of rebels) met. nests

(Incredible Hulk III#94) - An Amebid was in the skies outside the Imperial Pleasure Cruiser "Dreamskipper" over the ruins of the rebel city of I't'jam.
Amebids also floated over the Great Arena as the Red King's Imperial Dreadnough prepared to drop a Deathfire Bomb on the Hulk's gladiator team.

(Incredible Hulk III#95) - An Amebid was in the sky over Crown City as the the triple drum call announced that the Emperor had made the day a public holilday.
Amebids were in the sky later as Silver Surfer prepared to depart Sakaar.

(Incredible Hulk III#97) - Amebids floated over the plains as Caiera led Imperial troops in search of the Hulk.
Amebids floated over the Maw after the Hulk liberated the slaves being trained there.

(Incredible Hulk III#98) - Amebids floated in the sky as Miek and the Natives fought the Hulk, making him angry enough to take the fight back to the Red King.
More floated in the sky as the Hulk and the rebels met Caiera and the Imperial soldiers on the plains to battle, which culminated in the Red King's sending the Spike's ship to crash in the vicinity.

(Incredible Hulk III#99) - Amebids floated in the sky above the deserts outside the city An-Sara as the Red King's Imperial Dreadnought arrived to drop Deathfire Bombs to sacrifice the city to trap the Hulk there with the Spikes.

(Incredible Hulk III#101) - Amebids floated in the sky as the Hulk used the Stone Starship's electromagnetic pulse weapon to power down Crown City.

(Skaar: Son of Hulk#6 - BTS / Skaar: Son of Hulk#10 (fb)) - When Skaar first received the Old Power, he saw everything on Sakaar, including the nesting grounds of the Amebids

Comments: Created by Greg Pak, Carlo Pagulayan, and Jeffrey Huet.

I'd bet the Amebids are seen in at least the background of other issues of Planet Hulk, and or Skaar/Son of Hulk, etc...but I don't have them listed in my indexes...can anyone confirm other appearances?

Almost all of the data listed in this entry was revealed in Planet Hulk: Gladiator Guidebook
