Powers/Abilities: As angel Afterlife is an immortal being that could absorb the pain and suffering from human souls. It could cross over between Earth and Heaven at any time and had the ability to fly.
As monster Afterlife was still immortal. It could drain the life-force from humans. It could also swallow its victims and take on their form if it desired. It was trapped in the realm between Earth and Heaven and had to attack itself to a living being to cross over to Earth once again.
History: (Dr. Strange III#89 (fb) - BTS) - For millennia the angel Afterlife walked the Earth and helped suffering souls and took on humanity's pain until it became too much for the angel. Hating Earth it retreated to the realm between Earth and Heaven where it hoped to heal its wounds, but instead all the suffering it had to endure manifested itself and turned the angel Afterlife into a grotesque, monstrous being. Afterlife eventually forgot its true nature and waited for a way to return to Earth and destroy humanity. (Dr. Strange III#88) - Afterlife swallowed Dr. Strange in the realm between Earth and Heaven while Wong said goodbye to his beloved Imei. (Dr. Strange III#89) - Taking on Dr. Strange's form, Afterlife returned with Wong to Earth. Dr. Strange broke free before Afterlife could touch and kill Wong, but the creature wasn't dead yet and went on a rampage in the Tempo building, sucking the life-force from any human it encountered. Meanwhile Dr. Strange started to understand what Afterlife really was with the help of the Eye of Agamotto. Wong helped Dr. Strange fight Afterlife until Dr. Strange encased the creature in a mystical field. Confronting the being with their love and compassion Dr. Strange and Wong forced Afterlife to reveal his true nature. The monster was blown apart inside the field and a cocoon appeared. An angel hatched from the cocoon and all the life-forces Afterlife had stolen before, returned to their respective owners. Afterlife thanked Dr. Strange and Wong and returned to Heaven.
