He developed the ability to draw lasting colorful tattoos on people. The extent of his abilities is unrevealed.toiven_rexel-inhuman-rearoblique.jpg

History: (Inhumans III#7 (fb) - BTS) - Son of Inhuman royal guard Ursicus and telepath, Rexel Toiven was a loved by his parents until he emerged from the Terrigen mists with a minor, disfiguring mutation: "I come from bad from Terrigen mists and make great sadness for them."toiven_rexel-inhuman-bodyart.jpg

Rexel's parents severed contact with him, and he was relegated to Attilan's "Darkward End," where he opened a Body Art shop and developed a name for himself as a tattoo artist, his most prominent customer being Karnak.

Rexel lived through dark times with the Inhumans, such as the period when Maximus the Mad was king.

(Inhumans III#7) - Rexel Toiven went about his day-to-day life while Portuguese mercenaries waged war on Attilan and the Alpha Primitives stirred beneath the city.

Rexel gave Big Tonee a tattoo, discussing the state of things in Attilan, and he watched stirrings in the Alpha Primitives.

Noticing how his vid machine broke and remembering dark times the Inhumans had had, and later hearing Maximus report that Medusa had been kidnapped and that Attilan was in danger of falling into the ocean, Rexel decided to write a letter of his concern to Black Bolt, and did so.

(Inhumans III#8) - Rexel Toiven joined members of the royal guard, including Tonaja, Nahrees, Neifi, and Dinu, on the battle's frontlines.

When Dinu was mortally wounded, Rexel ran for help.

(Inhumans III#10) - Rexel noticed a deadly attack being fired into a breech in the barrier, and rushed to warn the nearby Tonaja and Kalikya, who had time to escape. toiven_rexel-inhuman-memorial.jpg

Rexel took the full blast, however, and was mortally wounded. Kalikya tried to heal him, but it was too late. With his final words, he mentioned his love for his parents.

(Inhumans III#12 - BTS) - A monument was erected to Rexel, stating "Erected to honor the memory of Rexel Toiven, loving son and beloved hero of Attilan."

His parents visited his memorial and grieved.

Comments: Created by Paul Jenkins and Jae Lee.

Rexel introduced himself as, "Rexel Toiven, son of Ursicus, son of Belial." When people use that terminology, it usually means that Rexel is the son of Ursicus, and Ursicus is the son of Belial. For that reason, I don't think that Belial is Rexel's mother.

Additionally, Rexel referenced "Darkward End" a few times, and I'm not certain whether that was just a generality (like Manhattan's upper east side) or whether that was the actual name of the region. After re-reading it, I'm inclined to think the latter.

CLARIFICATIONS:
Rexel Toiven has no known connections to:

toiven_rexel-inhuman-tattootoni.jpgBig Tonee

(Inhumans III#7) - While Rexel Toiven gave Big Tonee a tattoo, they discussed the potential of the Inhumans going to war with the attacking Portuguese mercenaries.

Big Tonee suggested they should slaughter the invading armies to teach others to leave them alone.

Note: It is unrevealed whether Big Tonee was exposed to Terrigen mists; if so, Big Tonee's powers and abilities remain unrevealed.

Ursicus & wife

(Inhumans III#7 (fb) - BTS) - Ursicus and his unidentified wife, of the Inhumans, were proud parents of Rexel Toiven. Both likely gained powers via the Terrigen mists. Ursicus was a royal guard with unspecified abilities, and his wife was a telepath.

When Rexel emerged from the Terrigen mists with a minor mutation, his parents were saddened, and they no longer had contact with him for many years. He was relegated to Darkward End of the city.

(Inhumans III#7 - BTS) - Rexel, in a letter to Black Bolt, mentioned his love for his parents.

(Inhumans III#10 - BTS) - Rexel died in battle, and, with his final words, mentioned his parents.

(Inhumans III#12) - After Rexel lost his life defending Attilan, Ursicus and his wife visited his memorial and cried.
