History: (Tales to Astonish I#33/3) - The past of Walter Krugg is unknown, but by 1945 he had forged papers and beat the draft, thereby avoiding military service.

One night, Krugg stole a diamond necklace from his employer and headed back to his apartment. As Krugg was packing his belongings and preparing to flee the country with his ill-gotten gains, he heard an unearthly voice speak to him. Krugg turned and saw a cloaked entity which introduced itself as one of the Fates. The Fate tried to convince Krugg that it was useless for him to run, that no matter where he hid, he would still pay for his crimes ("For no man can escape what we Fates have ordained for him"). But Krugg paid no heed to the words of the Fate as he departed.

Krugg turned traitor and emigrated to Japan, where he planned to wait out the rest of the war living in the one country where the American police couldn't reach him. Now wealthy and content, Walter Krugg also felt perfectly safe... after all, what could possibly happen to him in a quiet, peaceful city like Hiroshima?

Comments: Created by an unknown writer and Don Heck.

I doubt it would have been that easy to get into an enemy nation during wartime just because one had a valuable necklace -- maybe Krugg also had some military secrets to offer the Japanese.

And assuming he was still living in Hiroshima on August 6th of that year, it's possible Walter Krugg is now part of the Everwraith.
