Powers/Abilities/Functions: When utilized by a magic wielder, the Gem of Tartarus proved capable of holding super-powered individuals trapped in a pillar incapable of action. The extent of its abilities is unknown. The Gem was easily destroyed.
History: (Defenders II#3) - Pluto used the Gem of Tartarus to entrap the Defenders (Doctor Stephen Strange, Hulk (Bruce Banner), Silver Surfer, and Sub-Mariner) along with a mortal man imprisoned in a pillar. Pluto killed the man and the Defenders remained trapped until another Defender, Hellcat, slashed the gem, allowing the Defenders to go free.

"Tartarus" may refer to the Hades' portion of Hades' realm of the same name.
