This reality was an alternate Earth, as Wonder Man & Power Man were female.

This joke is related to an incident between Marvel and DC; reportedly, DC was concerned at Marvel's one-time use of Wonder Man in the 60s because it might infringe upon their Wonder Woman trademark, but Stan Lee assured DC that Wonder Man would never return. Then in the 70s when Marvel was publishing Power Man, DC came out with Power Girl, violating the spirit of the company's understanding of trademark. Stan apparently demanded that Wonder Man be brought back from the dead to spite DC for creating Power Girl.
