History: (What If? II#57 (fb)) - During one of Frank Castle's stakeouts, he was gassed and brought before SHIELD Col. Nick Fury, who offered him a chance to use his talents to tackle bigger criminals than just hoodlums and crooks. Given the choice between SHIELD or prison, Frank Castle chose SHIELD and was given access to their arsenal and a striketeam of his own choosing. One of the first missions he sent his men on was against the Yellow Claw, whom Castle gunned down at point blank range. Returning from the mission, Castle was chewed out for not bringing back the Yellow Claw for questioning. Soon after on a mission in Madripoor, Castle opted to bring in the druglords but completely torch their buildings and supply. Once again chewed out by Fury, Castle was demoted to Chase Unit Zed, working with the recently captured. Sent on another mission, this time with Dum-Dum Dugan as the lead, Hydra surprised the agents with an attack that caused the deaths of all agents but Castle himself. Castle stayed in hiding at the Hydra base for three weeks later, deciding to leave SHIELD completely and return to his vigilante ways. He then had his old pal Microchip hack into SHIELD's files on Hydra and while SHIELD thought Castle dead along with the other agents, Frank used his old clearance codes to steal a S. H. I. E. L. D. plane. S. H. I. E. L. D. soon suspected and brought it Microchip for questioning while Castle piloted the plane to Hydra Island.

(What If? II#57) - Using a SHIELD Flight Suit, the Punisher jumped down onto Hydra Island, gunning down as many Hydra agents as he could on his way down. He then made his way to the center of the Island where he took a few gunshots while gunning down other Hydra agents. As he died, he smiled, thinking of how his war was finally over and while he would never see his family again, at least they were together.

Profile by Proto-Man.

Earth-The Punisher Became an Agent of SHIELD has no known connections to

Dum-Dum Dugan

Dum-Dum Dugan was the same as his Earth-616 counterpart up until he led a SHIELD mission to a backwoods bunker that ended up being a Hydra base. During the surprise attack that followed, Dum-Dum was killed along with the other agents.

--What If? II#57 (#57d,

Dunn was a SHIELD agent who was hand-picked by Frank Castle to be a part of his striketeam against the Yellow Claw.

--What If? II#57

Eubel was a member of SHIELD under Frank Castle who was present when Castle was chewed out by Nick Fury for killing the Yellow Claw.

--What If? II#57

Nick Fury

Nick Fury was the same as his Earth-616 counterpart up until he offered Frank Castle a place in SHIELD When it became apparent that Castle could not follow the rules of espionage, Castle left SHIELD while Fury interrogated his old partner Microchip.

Fury presumably aged very slowly due to the Infinity Formula, like his Earth-616 counterpart.

--What If? II#57

Hydra was a terrorist organization, same as their Earth-616 counterpart. Aside from Hydra Island, they had hidden bases around the world and when SHIELD stumbled into one of their hidden bases, they murdered every agent present except for Frank Castle, who hid out for three weeks. In revenge for the murdered agents, Castle stole a SHIELD plane and flew into Hydra Island, killing every Hydra agent he could kill before being shot down himself.

--What If? II#57

Linus was the same as his Earth-616 counterpart up until the Punisher joined SHIELD After a long while, the Punisher visited Microchip once again to get his assistance in hacking into SHIELD's files on Hydra. When one of their planes went missing, SHIELD brought in and interrogated Microchip about his past with Frank Castle.

--What If? II#57

The Punisher

Frank Castle was the same as his Earth-616 counterpart up until Nick Fury gave him a choice between SHIELD or prison. Taking SHIELD's offer, Castle was given the opportunity to form his own striketeam and had access to all of their weapons until he led a mission against the Yellow Claw, whom he murdered at point blank range. After torching a druglord's headquarters in Madripoor, Castle was demoted to a team with Dum-Dum Dugan. He soon joined them on a mission where they were surprised by Hydra, who murdered every agent present except for Castle. Three weeks later, the Punisher quit SHIELD and returned to his old friend Microchip. Learning about Hydra's base on Hydra Island, the Punisher used his old SHIELD clearance to steal a SHIELD plane and fly it to Hydra Island where he gunned down every Hydra agent he saw before being shot down himself.

--What If? II#57 (#57d,

Clay Quartermain

Clay Quartermain was the same as his Earth-616 counterpart up until he led a SHIELD group with Frank Castle to Madripoor against druglords. After sending Castle inside to bring the druglords to justice, Quartermain was appalled to discover that Castle had torched the evidence.

--What If? II#57

SHIELD was an espionage agency, like their Earth-616 counterpart. After Nick Fury recruited Frank Castle, Castle was given his choice on SHIELD recruits to form his own striketeam. When Castle killed the Yellow Claw and torched a group of druglords' evidence, he was demoted and eventually lost to SHIELD when he joined them on a mission where Hydra surprised and killed all of them but Castle. Frank eventually returned and stole a SHIELD plane that he used to fly to Hydra Island and kill every Hydra agent he could find before being killed himself.

--What If? II#57

The Yellow Claw

The Yellow Claw was the same as his Earth-616 counterpart up until Frank Castle led a group of SHIELD agents against him. Eventually coming face-to-face with Castle, the Claw was killed when Castle shot him point blank.
