EZRA ASHER

Real Name: Ezra Asher

Identity/Class: Human vampire

Occupation: Vampire;
    former career unrevealed

Group Membership: None

Affiliations: Former partner of St. Cyrus Leviticus;
    formerly Antonio Vargas

Enemies: Antonio Vargas, Wolverine (Logan/James Howlett)

Known Relatives: Antonio Vargas (former husband, deceased)

Aliases: Vampire-Killer

Base of Operations: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

First Appearance: Wolverine: Black Rio (1998)

Powers/Abilities: Ezra had enhanced strength and speed, and her enlarged canine teeth could tear victims apart and/or allow her to feed on others' blood. Those she vampirized presumably became vampires as well, though it's not clear whether she was performing some sort of ritual that turned her victims until another type of undead servant of St. Cyrus.
    She would presumably have the typical abilities of a vampire, including the ability to survive virtually any assault, with the exception of beheading or a stake through the heart, or other mystical means. Consuming blood to survive, she presumably was immune to aging and conventional disease so long as she maintained a healthy intake of blood. It is not known whether she can transform herself into animals or mist.
    Similarly, she would presumably have the normal limitations of a vampire, including weakness to sunlight, silver, religious icons, garlic, etc.

Height: Approximately 5'7"
Weight: Approximately 130 lbs.
Eyes: Red; formerly light blue (I think)
Hair: Black; formerly brown (possibly red-brown)

History:
(Wolverine: Black Rio (fb) - BTS) - Ezra was wife of Rio de Janeiro detective Antonio Vargas and befriended his friend, Logan.

(Wolverine: Black Rio (fb) - BTS) - Ezra vanished suddenly after being vampirized by an unidentified vampire.

(Wolverine: Black Rio (fb) - BTS) - Ezra allied with St. Cyrus Leviticus, with their relationship having some romantic aspect to it. They plotted to facilitate a mass slaughter at the Carnaval, which would grant him the energy he needed, while simply allowing her to feast on blood.
    Ezra began to slaughter people in a series of attacks, which were investigated by local detective , who was actually Ezra's ex-husband before she had disappeared after being vampirized years before.

(Wolverine: Black Rio) - Ezra was bewildered by St. Cyrus talking to himself (or to the alien to whom he was bound), and was yelled at for her insolence, though he subsequently kissed her and apologized for his actions per  his alien's instructions.
    She later assaulted a group of criminals who had previously taken a beating after trying to rob a visiting Wolverine, vampirizing the lot of them (or making them slaves to St. Cyrus).
    St. Cyrus and Ezra waited in the apartment of Vargas, as he returned from a night of partying with his old friend Wolverine. One of Ezra's vampirized legions cracked the drunken Wolverine across the back of the head with a baseball bat, knocking him out. Ezra then allowed Vargas to recognize her as his wife before she drained him of blood, killing him.
    Seeking vengeance, Wolverine allowed himself to be captured by agents of St. Cyrus. While he was unconscious, Ezra fed on him repeatedly, enjoying the unique taste to his blood. When he awakened, Ezra fed on him again, but Wolverine broke free and battled her. They briefly struggled back and forth until Wolverine unsheathed his claws, at which point she fled, noting she had her own agenda, which did not include being skewered by him.
    As Wolverine departed by motorcycle after slaying St. Cyrus, Ezra secretly watched from a tree.

Comments: Created by Joe Casey, Oscar Jiminez, and Eduardo Alpuente.

    It would seem likely that Antonio Vargas would be reborn as a vampire three days after Ezra drained him dry, but that is unconfirmed.
