SATAN'S EGGS

Classification: Terrestrial technology

Creator: Dredmund Druid

User/Possessors: Dredmund Druid and his followers

First Appearance: Strange Tales I#143/1 (April, 1966)

Powers/Abilities/Functions: The main version of the Satan's Eggs was a series of egg-shaped flying vehicles which could hold several of the Druid's followers inside, or be remote-controlled. These vessels featured thermo-guns, traction nodules, jet guns and a tractor beam that could carry prisoners into a hold.

The Druid also made use of smaller remote-controlled eggs. In one battle, his forces used eggs which were outfitted like tanks and armed with thermo-rays, jet guns, and traction nodules. The tank versions could be piloted by several of his followers.

History: (Strange Tales I#143/1) - After a S.H.I.E.L.D. plane departed the Helicarrier, one of the Druid's eggs attacked it and destroyed it with a single shot. The crew survived by ejecting just in time.

(Strange Tales I#144/1) - The Druid summoned up one of the eggs to assassinate Nick Fury. It traced Fury to the site of the plane crash, which Fury had been investigating. Fury launched a borer bomb from his car at the egg and it drilled through the exterior, but did not damage anything vital before the egg destroyed it. The egg fired traction nodules ahead of Fury's car in an attempt to crash it, but Fury switched to VTOL mode. He and Dum-Dum Dugan then emerged from the car with grenade guns drawn, and fired at the hole the borer bomb had made, destroying the egg.

(Strange Tales I#145/1) - S.H.I.E.L.D. used a number of LMDs of Nick Fury to dupe the Druid, but although each LMD was attacked by the eggs, they did not capture him as S.H.I.E.L.D. had hoped. From the flight recorders in the eggs, the Druid learned that LMDs were being used to deceive him. When S.H.I.E.L.D. investigated the crash site of one of the Druid's eggs, the Druid appeared to engage Fury in combat, and unleashed a squadron of several varities of the Satan's Eggs, but the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents at hand destroyed them all. The followers inside of the eggs surrendered to S.H.I.E.L.D.

(Captain America I#187) - The Druid used one of his Satan's Eggs to hijack Captain America and bring him to his Arena of the Ancients, where several small remote-controlled eggs fought the Captain in a maze.

(Captain America I#188) - When the Druid's base was raided by S.H.I.E.L.D. to rescue Captain America, the Druid was lifted away by one egg's tractor beam, enabling him to escape.
