LYCA
The new Queen hatches

Real Name: Lyca

Identity/Class: Extradimensional (Microverse) extraterrestrial humanoid insectoid (Insectivorid, citizen of Kaliklak)

Occupation: Queen of Kaliklak

Group Membership: None

Affiliations: Micronauts (Acroyear, Bug, Huntarr, Marionette), Treefern and her knights

Enemies: Baron Karza, battle beetles

Known Relatives: Queen Esmera (mother, deceased)

Aliases: None

Base of Operations: The Nest, Kaliklak, Microverse

First Appearance: Micronauts I#56 (January, 1984)

Powers/Abilities: Lyca hatched as an adult Insectivorid. Like other female Insectivorids, she had naturally green skin, dark green shoulder-length hair, plus multifaceted yellow eyes that provided enhanced vision; she also had two antennae protruding from her forehead (more petite than their male counterparts, although the puffy ends seemed to inflate with age), which facilitated communication with other insect forms on the planet and, as with Bug, gave heightened sensory awareness. Like other Insectivorids, she spoke with an intermittent "tik" sound due to a chitinous membrane in her throat. Lyca stood about 5'10" tall and, curiously enough (given she hatched from a cocooned nest egg), had what appeared to be a umbilicus (belly button).

As an Insectivorid Queen, Lyca was likely armed with a deadly suicide sting like Queen Esmera (who used it in an assassination attempt against Baron Karza). The use of this sting, while commonly lethal, would unfortunately result in the Queen dying as well. Lyca has large, white, butterfly-like wings that could carry her aloft and which folded around her back like a short cape when not in use. She also had naturally dark green lips that other female Insectivorid non-Queens did not have. As Queen, Lyca was also the only fertile female on the planet, responsible for the laying of eggs that would be the future generations of Kaliklak. Within her egg, she was aware of all that transpired about her, but was powerless to act until she was ready to hatch. Notably, unlike other Insectivorids, Lyca hatched in a fully-grown form, which seems to be trait of special Queen hatchlings.

Lyca thanks her rescuersHistory:
(Micronauts I#56 (fb) - BTS) - Queen Esmera of Kaliklak laid a special egg in a cocoon that was destined to hatch after her death.

(Micronauts I#56) - Baron Karza's battle beetles had been sent to attack the planet of Kaliklak, home to the Insectivorid race, to aid the despot's mad quest for complete subjugation of the Microverse. The battle beetles attacked the planet mercilessly and targeted the Nest, where the new Queen of Kaliklak, Lyca, was soon expected to hatch. The Micronaut heroes, Acroyear, Bug (an Insectivorid), Huntarr and Marionette, as well as the Insectivorids, Treefern and her fellow band of rebels, fought their way through an onslaught of battle beetles to rescue Lyca, without whom the Kaliklakian Insectivorids would be wiped out as only she was fertile to produce new eggs.

The battle beetles' assault increased on the Royal Tower of the Nest, where Lyca was preparing to hatch. A fierce fray ensued in defense of the Queen's egg, until she finally hatched and flew out using her white wings. Aware of what had transpired about her, she thanked her rescuers. The Micronauts then beseeched Lyca for help in the war against Baron Karza, but the Queen had to decline, as her planet was still besieged by swarms of battle beetles. She knighted Treefern and her rebels as knights in the defense of Kaliklak. The Micronauts then left Kaliklak to continue their war against Karza.

Lyca flutters by

(Micronauts I#56 - BTS) - Lyca began laying new eggs to replace those Insectivorids whose lives had been lost.

(Micronauts I#57) - Baron Karza gloated to Lyca of Kaliklak, Little D of Prisonworld and an Acroyear elder about his imminent attempt to destroy the planet of Never-Summer to act as an example to resistance to his genocidal reign. Lyca defiantly called him a monster.
