History:
(GLA#1 (fb)) - Seeing Mr. Immortal's classified ad seeking "costumed adventurers" with "special talents", leather-enthusiast Gene Lorrene went to the Milwaukee YMCA as Leatherboy; there, he met up with local heroes Big Bertha, Dinah Soar, Doorman, Flatman, and Mr. Immortal. He joined the others in forming the Great Lakes Avengers and was present long enough to appear in the first official team photo, but he was let go after his teammates learned that he didn't actually have any leather-based powers -- it turned out that he had just misread the personal ad (obviously, he thought it was for... something else).

(GLX-Mas Spec#1 (fb)) - "3 years ago...", Leatherboy crashed the GLA Christmas party, but was asked to leave.

(GLA#3) - Now wearing a costume resembling Dr. Doom's armor (but made of leather, of course (actually quite similar to the armor Doom forged from Valeria's flesh) ), Lorrene became enraged when a TV news broadcast announced that Squirrel Girl had been admitted into the GLA, yet they had never even asked him to return. Seeking revenge, the suede-scofflaw broke into GLA headquarters and snapped Mr. Immortal's neck, killing him (don't worry, he got better). Leatherboy then proceeded to brutally kill Squirrel Girl's pet squirrel, Monkey Joe. Just then, Big Bertha walked in...

(GLA#4) - ...and sat on Leather Boy, pinning him to the floor (an experience which he rather enjoyed). After the remaining members of the GLA returned, they took the leather-clad law-breaker to the police and then went off to combat the menace of Maelstrom.

(GLA#4 - BTS) - When the Great Lakes Avengers were ordered to change their team name, they decided to call themselves "The Great Lakes X-Men" (GLX) and adopted new leather uniforms...all--unbeknownst to them--designed by Gene Lorrene.

(GLX-Mas Special#1 - BTS) - After learning of Lorrene's involvement in the design of their new uniforms, the GLX members all returned to wearing their original costumes.

(Gwenpool Holiday Special: Merry Mix-Up#1/5) - Leatherboy (in his original costume) attended a Deadpool Costume Contest hosted by Squirrel Girl to get his revenge. Deadpool assumed he was just another cosplayer and was impressed by cosplaying such an obscure loser-villain. Leatherboy then lured Squirrel Girl's squirrel Tippy-Toe with peanuts to himself and tried to kidnap her, which was seen by Deadpool. Realizing this was the real Leatherboy Deadpool took the microphone from Squirrel Girl to point out what was happening. When none of the Deadpool cosplayers took action, Deadpool knocked out Leatherboy by himself by throwing the microphone at his head. Deadpool then dragged the unconscious and gagged Leatherboy up a tree and bound him to it so a group of squirrels, who were friends with Tippy-Toe, could finally avenge the murder of Monkey Joe.

Comments: Created by Dan Slott and Paul Pelletier.

The GLA miniseries is a parody of various recent (at the time) grim, gritty, and depressing comic series - Avengers Disassembled, Identity Crisis, and so forth. The killer in Identity Crisis turned out to be Jean Loring, ex-wife of the Atom. The killer (well, of Monkey Joe, at least) in GLA turned out to be...*Gene Lorrene*. ARGH.
