Powers/Abilities: The Midwife was a powerful demon that wielded poweful magical abilities. She was shown breaking through Strange's spells with ease and possessed offensive power enough to fend of a horde of demons. Her most important skills would clearly be in healing and caring for a pregnant woman, though.

History: (Dr. Strange III#89 (fb) - BTS) - The Midwife was created by Chthon for the sole purpose of caring for Victoria Montesi and helping to bring the infant Chthon into Earth's dimension.

(Dr. Strange III#89) - The Midwife appeared in Dr. Strange's Sanctum and awakened Vicki Montesi from the stasis she'd been kept in, telling her that the time had come for Chthon to be born.

(Dr. Strange III#90) - Days later Strange discovered that the Midwife had been present in his Sanctum, but masking herself from his detection. The demon explained what she was doing and altered Montesi in such a way that, if Strange put her in stasis again, she would die. As Strange went off to Chthon's realm to find a way to confront him, the Midwife cared for Montesi. Victoria went into labor, but the energies of Chthon proved too much, and she faced possible death. The Midwife knew she had to prevent this, and so worked with the returned Dr. Strange to keep her alive. The magician used the opportunity to cast a spell drawing on the goodness in Vicki to cast Chthon back to its own dimension, sealing the gateway. Chthon's demons were enraged and prepared to slaughter Strange and Montesi, but the Midwife stepped up and helped the humans fight off the horde. She explained that her total reason for existence was to bring life into the world and she could not bear to watch their lives be snuffed out. The Midwife offered to stay with Vicki as she recovered from the ordeal.
