GOLOKS

Classification: Extraterrestrial race, humanoid

Location/Base of Operations: Unnamed microscopic planet

Known Members: None

Affiliations: None

Enemies: People of Earth

First Appearance: Tales of Suspense I#13 (January, 1961)

Powers/Abilities: Goloks resemble humans physically, but possess superior technology, including vessels which can perform interplanetery flights, laser weaponry, and an "ultimate bomb" which can destroy an entire planet. Goloks are the size of microbes in relation to humans.

History: (Tales of Suspense I#13/4) - The Goloks tested their new "ultimate bomb," and determined that it held enough power to destroy a planet. With this knowledge, they decided to launch an invasion of Earth, a planet their astronomers had just discovered. They loaded their armies into a single vessel, testing its armaments out on asteroids during the flight.

Upon their arrival at Earth, the Goloks burst out of their ship, ready for combat, but they found nothing to greet them-- just the sky, and a barren ground. They could not determine how the people of Earth could have all vanished, and taken even their cities, mountains, oceans and soil with them.

Deciding that they were victims of a trick, the Goloks set up the ultimate bomb and departed, intending to destroy the Earth. However, the explosion of the bomb was so tremendous that they could not outride the shockwave, and were caught in the blast, all perishing. The Goloks never realized that they had actually landed upon a child's ping-pong ball, for they were much smaller than humans.

Comments: Created by Steve Ditko (and Stan Lee?).

The story of the Goloks is similiar to many other tales of Ditko's from the 50's and 60's, including Tim Boo Ba, Monsteroso and "Will This Be the End of the World" from Journey Into Mystery I#72.

This story was reprinted in Where Monsters Dwell#25.

As with many 1950's and 1960's Marvel monster stories, this story is not confirmed as part of Earth-616 continuity, but there's nothing to exclude it either.
