History:
(Amazing Adventures II#2/2) - Seeking to obtain a building in Spanish Harlem where the Young Warriors could provide services to underprivileged children, Carlos asked the Black Widow to support the Young Warriors in their efforts, as the building they wanted to seize belonged to Anthony Scarola. The Black Widow declined to support them until she had all the facts. The following day, the Young Warriors raided Anthony Scarola's offices and ordered he and all his men to exit. Scarola left but promised the affair wasn't over.

    Soon, the Young Warriors renovated the building to supply free breakfast for starving children. The Black Widow came to visit the operation, having done her investigation, and told Carlos that although she supported what the Young Warriors were doing, she disagreed with their methods. Just then, some of Scarola's men invaded the building armed with guns to make the Young Warriors leave by force. The Black Widow fought off most of the armed men with some help from the Young Warriors. However, just as the fighting ended, the police entered and informed the Young Warriors they had a court order forcing them to vacate the building within 24 hours. Carlos and the other Young Warriors refused, even though the Black Widow offered to help them obtain a building legally. By then, the New York Daily Press was calling the Black Widow an ally of a "militant group" and reporter Paul Hamilton contacted Black Widow, telling her he was on the Young Warriors' side.

(Amazing Adventures II#3/2) - The Young Warriors were written up in an editorial by J. Jonah Jameson in the Daily Bugle which condemned the group and the Black Widow for assisting them. Carlos led a meeting with the Young Warriors in which they resolved to remain in the building and refuse to evacuate when the police came for them. The mayor appeared on television saying he hoped the Young Warriors would meet with him but that he would evict them from the building if a solution could not be found. Carlos took this to mean that the mayor was against them and remained determined to occupy the building.

(Amazing Adventures II#4/2) - The Young Warriors remained in the building even as police with tear gas surrounded them, waiting for the deadline to expire. However, the Black Widow arrived before the deadline and reasoned with the Young Warriors while Paul Hamilton reasoned with the mayor. The Young Warriors agreed to vacate the building and accept a nearby building which Natasha would lease to them for free. In return, the mayor would support the Young Warriors' social program.

    A Daily Bugle article in Amazing Adventures II#3/2 referred to Scarola as "Mario Scarola." Perhaps old man Jameson made a typo.

Carlos

Carlos is the son of Maria and lived in Spanish Harlem. He served as the leader of the Young Warriors. Carlos borrowed some money from criminals and when he was unable to pay them back, the Black Widow came to his defense.

When his mother introduced him to Natasha Romanoff, Carlos immediately recognized her as the Black Widow. She affirmed this and he requested her assistance to defend the Young Warriors as they sought to transform Anthony Scarola's office building into a place to serve free breakfast to poor children in Spanish Harlem. Scarola was driven from the building but he continued to oppose the Young Warriors by both court order and armed thugs. The Black Widow helped defend Carlos and the other Young Warriors and ultimately reasoned with them to vacate the building in exchange for support from New York's mayor.

The Don

The Don was Anthony Scarola, the head of a crime family. Publicly, he was campaigning for political office in the House of Representatives. When operating as the Don, he wore a mask over his face to protect his identity.

When the Young Warriors laid claim to the building which had housed Scarola's offices, Scarola did not immediately put a fight but later sent some of his men with guns to force the Young Warriors out while at the same time obtaining a court order to force them to vacate the property. When the Black Widow emerged as the Young Warriors' ally, Scarola (as "the Don") had her kidnapped so that she would not interfere further and also permit him to spread gossip that the Black Widow was still a Communist agent, thereby smearing the Young Warriors by association. However, the Black Widow escaped the Don's men with the help of Paul Hamilton and she was able to reason with the Young Warriors, preventing a showdown between them and the police. As the Young Warriors spoke about Scarola's illegal activities, a television report announced that Scarola was under jury investigation.

I suppose it's possible he's from a Maggia crime family.

Scarola had a receding hairline but at times the Don seemed to have a full head of hair. Maybe he also wore a hairpiece to disguise his identity?

Paul Hamilton

Paul Hamilton was a reporter and columnist for the New York Daily Press. As the confrontation between the Young Warriors and Anthony Scarola was picked up in the newspapers, Paul took an interest in the affair and contacted the Black Widow, offering to help her and the Young Warriors. As the Black Widow and the Young Warriors faced negative press, Hamilton attempted to counter it by reminding the public of Natasha's history with the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. When the Black Widow was ambushed by some of the Don's men, Paul helped create a diversion by releasing smoke from his pipe then aided her in the resulting fistfight against the Don's men. While the Black Widow convinced the Young Warriors to vacate the building, Paul spoke to New York's mayor and convinced him to support the Young Warriors' program.

Maria

Maria was Carlos' mother, a Puerto Rican woman. She served as Natasha Romanoff's maid in her penthouse apartment. When Carlos owed money to criminals, Maria happened to mention the fact to Natasha but asked her not to get involved. However, Natasha did involve herself and saved Carlos from the criminals. Later, Maria formally introduced Carlos to Natasha as he told her about his intentions with his group the Young Warriors.

Mario

Mario was a gangster in Anthony Scarola's mob. When the Don kidnapped the Black Widow, Mario helped fight her and finally knocked her out with the butt of his gun. The Don assigned Mario to guard her while he dealt with the Young Warriors. However, the Black Widow eventually escaped her bonds and easily defeated Mario.

Snake-Eyes

Snake-Eyes was one of Scarola's henchmen. He was present when the Young Warriors usurped Scarola's offices but exited peacefully with Scarola.
