History:
(Sword Master#11 (fb) - BTS) - The descendant of Nü-wa, Ji Xiangyun
served as chief of the Nü-wa clan and wielded the bands of Nü-wa for
decades, gaining great proficiency in their use.
(Sword
Master#8) - From a remote outpost in the Gansu province, as he and his men
monitored the Sword Master (Lin Lei) and Ji Shuangshuang working together
(with the latter mentoring the former), Ji Xiangyun was pleased to finally
see the Nü-wa and the Fu Xi Clans working together. She instructed her
people to get the compound ready for visitors, as they had an old friend
coming to stay...and the survival of their world would depend on how well
this visit went.
(Sword Master#10) - After Ji Shuangshuang brought Lin Lei (and his friend
Ah Cheng) to the Nü-wa mansion and found it under assault by the Xian war
god Chiyou's demons (who were seeking to restore Chiyou's existence), Ji
Xiangyun confronted them. Tearing apart the demons while noting that she
had awakened from a nice nap to find this infestation, she then summoned
the power of the Bands of Nü-wa, she unleashed a blast that destroyed the
demons.
(Sword Master#11) - After Lin and Cheng expressed their amazement with her abilities, Ji Shuangshuang stated her to be the chief of the Nü-wa clan and her grandmother. Disgusted with the mess made by the battle with the demons,Ji Xiangyun ordered her people to get it cleaned up at once.
Ji Xiangyun subsequently confronted Lin, noting that he must be the successor to the Sword of Fu Xi, and Ji Shuangshuang introduced him as Lin Lie. Ji Xiangyun asked how old Lin was and, noting how skinny he was, she asked if he even knew how to fight and wondered why young people no longer learned how to train. She then commanded his attention and noted that, for better or worse, he was the successor of the Fu Xi Clan, and she introduced herself and saluted and welcomed him to their enclave.
She further noted that Chiyou's army would be back,
that she respected Lin's alliance and that his choosing to oppose Chiyou's
forces without full understanding of his family's destiny made his courage
shine more brightly.
When Cheng joked around with Lin, Ji Xiangyun asked
who he was. Ji Shuangshuang dismissed him as their driver, but Cheng
argued that he and Lin went way back and that Lin relied on him for
everything. He continued, complimenting her on her magic and asking if she
could teach him how to do that. Stating that this was a crisis situation
and that they did not have time for nonessential persons and that it was
too dangerous for him, she asked Lin to see Cheng out.
While Cheng continued to argue that he wanted to help,
Ji Xiangyun revealed how Chiyou's body was buried beneath the ground of
their compound. As she brought Lin and Ji Shuangshuang into a sacred
chamber marked with the sign of the three emperors, she had her clansmen
restrain Cheng, noting that only those of the Emperors' bloodline may
enter the chamber.
As she mystically unlocked the chamber, she was
pleased with Lin recognized it as the Lock of the Eight Ways and noted how
it worked. She then brought them to the tomb of Chiyou's body, explaining
how in the past, the defeated Chiyou's body was divided up and sealed in
chambers beneath each of the three clans' bases and held there by the
clans' weapons (with the Sword of Fu Xi over his head and the Whip of Shen
Nong over his heart). Reviewing the clans' sacred duty to prevent Chiyou's
resurrection, or he might rise and destroy all of humanity. Ji
Shuangshuang added that as the Sword had been removed prior to Lin's
obtaining it, Chiyou's head was free and sought its other parts.
After revealing that the orb that Lin believed his father had sent him had actually been sent by Chiyou, after which she levitated the Sword of Fu Xi, noting how it would reveal what had transpired in the tomb of Chiyou's head.
(Sword Master#12 - BTS) - The sword had shared how the Fu Xi Clan had
contained the skull of Chiyou 4000 years ago via wooden chains made from
trees that had grown from the ground on which thousands of the Fu Xi had
perished in the final battle against Chiyou. However, as millennia passed,
each generation grew less vigilant than the previous one until the legend
of Chiyou was barely a memory and the Fu Xi Clan forgot the location of
the sword and the tomb. The chamber was recently entered via an
archeological expedition, awakening the skull, but Lin's father prevented
Chiyou from obtaining the sword and contained his soul orb within a puzzle
box made from the same wood that had previously bound Chiyou.
(Sword Master#12) - Ji Xiangyun told Lin how his father's imprisoning of Chiyou's soul orb in that fashion greatly limited Chiyou's power. She further explained that Lin's nature as a descendant of the three emperors made him a threat against Chiyou, and she warned that his father and brother may no longer be alive. When Lin resolved to go to Qianfengou to prove her wrong by finding his father and brother, after which he would take care of Chiyou with the Sword of Fu Xi, Ji Xiangyun stopped him, telling that he was not ready nor a match for Chiyou at this time. She instructed him to first train underJi Shuangshuang, and that once Ji Shuangshuang deemed him ready, then he could go after Chiyou.
(Iron Fist VI#4 (fb) - BTS) - Ji Xiangyun entrusted Ji Shuangshuang with
the Bands of Nü-wa.
(Iron Fist VI#4) - When Lin Feng assaulted the Nü-wa compound, the Nü-wa warriors were unable to reach Ji Xiangyun, and Ji Shuangshuang confronted Lin Feng.
(Iron Fist VI#4 (fb) - BTS) - Lin Feng defeated Ji Shuangshuang and took
the Bands of Nü-wa from her.
Warriors of Three Sovereigns was the original publication of the main story that appeared in Sword Master. It was a digital only manhua (Chinese comic, their equivalent to Japan's manga), but different formats and page counts when reprinting and translating it for U.S. comic formatting meant the American editions included new U.S.-originated back-up stories, so in terms of figuring out which Chinese issues were reprinted in which U.S. issues, it's not as simple as Warriors of Three Sovereigns#1 is the same as Sword Master#1. The Three Sovereigns are major characters in real-world Chinese mythology, and so it made sense for the Chinese title to reference that, but since they aren't really known to Western audiences I guess they thought the name wouldn't appeal to Americans and went with a more generic name based on the main character.
