History:

(Marvel Mystery Comics I#35/3 (fb) - BTS) - The Wump-Jump is a dragon from an extra-dimensional place that is called "China" and resembles the nation of China from Earth. The Wump-Jump would take his vacations in the Land of Nowhere. The Wump-Jump and all of its people believed they had lost the ability to breathe fire.

(Marvel Mystery Comics I#28/6) - The Wump-Jump became the guardian of the forest in the Land of Nowhere, protecting the forest's intelligent trees who included Elmer Tree and Ashley Tree. When the human boy Jimmy Jupiter first found himself in the Land of Nowhere he journeyed through the forest to find the Mountain of Wunt, which was supposed to lead him back to Earth. The trees were happy to meet Jimmy but warned him about the Wump-Jump. When the Wump-Jump heard an intruder in the forest he came charging toward Jimmy but found he'd climbed up into Elmer's branches. Annoyed, Wump-Jump called him a coward and told him to come down and fight him like a man. Jimmy reacted by throwing a small twig from Elmer's branches at the Wump-Jump, striking him in the nose. Immediately, the Wump-Jump burst into tears. Jimmy apologized for making him cry.

(Marvel Mystery Comics I#29/5 - BTS) - When Jimmy was next in the Land of Nowhere he went looking for the Wump-Jump. Ruffy Rabbit offered to help bring Jimmy to the Wump-Jump.

(Marvel Mystery Comics I#30/6) - One night, the Wump-Jump and Ruffy Rabbit traveled from the Land of Nowhere to Earth on a moonbeam and visited Jimmy Jupiter in his room, inviting him to come back to the Land of Nowhere with them. The Wump-Jump allowed Jimmy to ride on his back but disdained to let Ruffy on his back, calling him a "ruffian." Back in the Land of Nowhere, the Wump-Jump and Ruffy showed Jimmy a clearing where fairies were dancing in a ring. Jimmy befriended the fairies and helped them against their enemies, the gnomes.

(Marvel Mystery Comics I#35/3) - When Jimmy visited the Wump-Jump's China, the Wump-Jump introduced him to his parents and learned China was being invaded by warlike Black Dragons from Japanese legend. When the Black Dragons attacked the Wump-Jump's family, Jimmy realized the Wump-Jump and his parents could still breathe flame and used goldenrod to activate their allergies, causing them to emit a powerful burst of blame that melted the Black Dragons into cocoa butter.

(Marvel Mystery Comics I#42/5) - One night, the Wump-Jump and Ruffy Rabbit returned to visit Jimmy on Earth. Jimmy had spotted Tubby and some thieves stealing tires from his family's yard and he climed up on the Wump-Jump as they gave chase to the thieves. The Wump-Jump and Ruffy started to quarrel and became distracted until they saw Jimmy was fighting the thieves on his own. The Wump-Jump sat on one of the thieves and the three friends finally drove them off. The Wump-Jump carried the stolen tires back to Jimmy's house by looping them over his neck and Jimmy returned to sleep while the Wump-Jump and Ruffy Rabbit went back to the Land of Nowhere.

The Wump-Jump was very much like Kenneth Grahame's Reluctant Dragon (1898).
