History:

(D.P.7 I#11 (fb) - BTS) - The man known only as "the Woodsman" decided to leave civilization and live in the wild. He didn't know much about the wildnerness but he met "a teacher, a guide, a fellow traveler" who taught him what he needed to know.

(D.P.7 I#10) - On December 9, 1986, The Woodsman was out hunting rabbit with his husky Demon when he came across the unconscious form of Dave Landers, an enormous paranormal man who had been pursued by the mercenary Lezar into the woods. The Woodsman carried Dave back to his cabin and tended to him to prevent frostbite. The Woodsman discovered tranquilizer darts in Dave's skin from shots Lezar and his fellow mercenaries had fired at Dave.

When Dave awoke, the Woodsman fed him rabbit stew. Dave informed the Woodsman he would be in danger from the men who were pursuing him. Just then, Demon sensed someone outside the cabin. The Woodsman left Dave inside to eat his stew while he investigated. The Woodsman discovered Lezar, who had concealed himself beneath the trees encircling the Woodsman's cabin and was waiting for Landers to exit the cabin so he could fire another tranquilizer dart at him. The Woodsman sent Demon out to distract Lezar then he drew up behind the man with an arrow notched in his bow. He made Lezar drop his rifle and began to direct him towards the cabin. Lezar drew a pistol and tried to shoot the Woodsman but while he was spinning to face him, Demon bit Lezar's wrist and he dropped the gun. The Woodsman explained Lezar was lucky because if he hadn't seen Demon lunging for him, he would have released his arrow into Lezar's chest. The Woodsman led him into the cabin and announced he would listen to Dave and Lezar's versions of what was going on and what Dave was accused of, then he would decide what to do next.

(D.P.7 I#11) - Believing Dave's account, the Woodsman guided Dave north of the cabin towards the Canadian border to evade his pursuers. The Woodsman spent weeks in the wilderness with Dave, teaching him how to survive in the wild and how to fight. When Dave asked why the Woodsman had helped him, the Woodsman explained how he had once been taught by a fellow traveler; teaching Dave what he knew was his way of repaying his own mentor and he believed one day Dave would help another person in the same way. Reminded of his friends, who were being held at the Clinic for Paranormal Research, Dave started to suggest the Woodsman could help him save them but Dave realized he was asking too much from the Woodsman and apologized. Believing the Woodsman was too virtuous, Dave departed his camp that evening, hoping to somehow save his friends. Although Dave thought he was leaving in secret, the Woodsman watched him depart and silently wished him well.

The Woodsman also appeared as a figure in Dave Landers' dream seen in D.P.7 I#24, where Dave imagined the Woodsman had come to rescue him from the U.S. Army's "Black Hole" prison.
