History:
(Apache Kid I#2 (fb)) - Harry Snedly was an officer in the U.S. Cavalry
serving at Fort Madison under the command of Captain Bill Gregory.
Assuming the masked identity of the Wolf, Snedly began selling whiskey
and rifles to renegade Natives and riled them up to attack White men's
towns. To supply the renegades with guns, Snedly stole rifles as they
were being shipped to Fort Madison. The Wolf's actions turned both
Captain Gregory's Cavalry and Chief Red Hawk's Apaches against him.
(Apache Kid I#2) - Harry was on duty at Fort Madison when Aloysius Kare (secretly the Apache Kid) came to meet with Captain Gregory. Harry refused to give Kare access to Captain Gregory's office, saying he was too busy to talk to "every saddletramp that comes in here." This incensed Kare, who started to scuffle with Snedly, but Captain Gregory exited his office and welcomed Kare inside. Kare deposited the humiliated Snedly behind him. However, Snedly listened at the door as Kare spoke to Gregory and learned Kare was actually the Apache Kid and was investigating his crimes he'd committed as the Wolf.
As Kare rode away from Fort Madison that evening, Snedly, garbed as the Wolf, pursued and fired at him, striking him in the left shoulder. The Wolf rode away, leaving Kare where he fell. The Wolf created a false trail that led to Red Hawk's village, knowing that when Kare tried to follow it, he would meet a party of Apaches thinking they were on the Wolf's trail. Kare continued his search as the Apache Kid and when the Wolf's trail brought him to Red Hawk's village, he wrongly assumed the female Apache White Swan was the person posing as the Wolf. Red Hawk accused the Apache Kid and sentenced him to death. The Kid at first accepted this, thinking he was protecting White Swan, but when White Swan revealed she had seen Snedly marking the trail, the Kid realized Snedly had been the Wolf all along.
Snedly soon left Fort Madison on a furlough which he intended to spend as the Wolf. However, the Apache Kid rode up and snared him in a lasso then dragged him to a cliff over Death Plunge Canyon, where Red Hawk, White Swan and other Apaches could observe their confrontation. Snedly drew a pistol on the Kid but the Kid threw his knife at the pistol, knocking it out of Snedly's hand. The two men began to fight hand-to-hand and Snedly believed he had the upper hand because of the Kid's shoulder injury but the Kid caught him in a wrestling move and crushed his ribcage. As the Kid held him over his head, Snedly drew his derringer to shoot him but Red Hawk saw him and fired an arrow that hit Snedly in the stomach. The Apache Kid completed his throw and hurled Snedly over the cliff to his death. Snedly was buried in Death Plunge Canyon with a marker that read "Here lay the remains of Harry Snedly, a traitor to his people."
