History:
(Police Action I#1/3) - Louis Vidot and Lenoir were on patrol in Paris
when they heard a woman screaming. The woman, Annette Dorien, indicated
a man who was racing to a taxicab and claimed he was threatening to
blow up the city. Louis gave chase after the man, Jacques Corbeau, who
drew a pistol and shot at Louis as he boarded his taxi. Louis jumped on
the running board of another taxi and pursued Corbeau's taxi. Firing
his gun at the taxi, he blew out one of the tires.
Jacques fled from the taxi into a subway. As Louis descended after him, Jacques whirled around, displaying a briefcase. He informed Louis the case was full of nitroglycerin and he threatened to fire his own gun into the case if Louis kept following him. Jacques then fled into a subway train and escaped before Louis could catch up.
Getting into another taxi, Louis eventually caught up to Corbeau but when he tried to remove the briefcase, Corbeau struck Louis over the head then fled. As Louis' cab driver helped him up, Louis was joined by Lt. Colbert from police headquarters, who had been sent by Inspector Malon to trail Annette after she'd given her statement. Colbert found it too coincidental that Annette was headed to the same neighborhood Corbeau had gone to and they concluded that Corbeau had no nitro and had been trying to cause a panic.
The two men summoned Inspector Malon and Captain Gris and went together to the apartment Annette had entered. Inspector Malon noted a large jewelry robbery had occurred in the neighborhood due to the police being pulled off their beats to pursue Corbeau. The police announced their presence outside the apartment, telling the occupants they were certain Annette was sheltering the jewel thieves. The thieves began firing through the door and out the windows, laying down so much automatic fire that the police couldn't advance toward them.
Louis conceived of a solution; he summoned the fire brigade and directed the firefighters to turn their hoses on the windows to Annette's apartment. The jets of water made it impossible for Corbeau and his associates to see Louis climbing a ladder to the window. When the water stopped, Louis surprised Corbeau, firing a rifle and hitting him in the chest. As Louis continued to fire into the apartment, the rest of Corbeau's men surrendered. For his good police work, Louis was promoted to sergeant by Inspector Malon.

Lt. Colbert was a member of the Paris police and subordinate to Inspector Malon. After Annette Dorien claimed Jacques Corbeau was carrying nitroglycerin, Malon ordered Colbert to shadow her. While following her, Colbert crossed paths with Louis Vidot, who had just encountered Corbeau, suggesting Annette was indeed working with him. Colbert was present as Louis and Malon helped break up Corbeau's gang of jewel thieves.

Jacques Corbeau was the ringleader of a gang of jewel thieves. Corbeau pretended to be carrying a briefcase full of nitroglycerin so he could bluff the Paris police into fruitlessly chasing him across the city rather than foil his gang's jewel robberies. However, Louis Vidot and Lt. Colbert tracked Corbeau to Annette Dorien's apartment. Corbeau and his men opened fire on the police but Louis used firefighters as a diversion and fired a rifle at point blank range at Corbeau, apparently killing him.

Annette Dorien was married to Jacques Corbeau. She drew in the police by claiming Corbeau had a case full of nitroglycerin. However, Inspector Malon was not entirely convinced by her story and sent Lt. Colbert to trail her. When Corbeau and his jewel thieves took shelter in Annette's apartment, the police raided them. In the shootout, Jacques was apparently killed and Annette was arrested.

Captain Gris was a Paris policeman subordinate to Inspector Malon. He assisted the inspector in rounding up Jacques Corbeau's jewel thieves.

Lenoir was a Paris police patrolman who worked alongside Louis Vidot. He was present when Annette Dorien claimed Jacques Corbeau was carrying nitroglycerin in his briefcase. Lenoir brought Annette to Inspector Malon to give a statement.

Inspector Malon was the chief of the Paris police investigation into the events arising from Jacques Corbeau's claims that he was carrying nitroglycerin. Malon realized that the threat of the nitro had left a large part of Paris unguarded, giving criminals free reign to commit robberies. Malon sent Lt. Colbert to trail Annette Dorien and when the jewel thieves took up shelter in her apartment, Colbert summoned Malon, who oversaw the operation against the thieves, during which he gave Louis Vidot permission to assault the apartment by using fire hoses to disguise his approach. Malon rewarded Vidot for his valor by promoting him to sergeant.

Sisson was a jewel thief who worked for Jacques Corbeau. While Corbeau distracted many of Paris' police by claiming to have nitroglycerin, Sisson participated in a major jewelry heist. Sisson brought the stolen jewels to Annette Dorien's apartment but by then the police had begun to doubt Annette's testimony and raided the apartment. When Corbeau was shot, Sisson surrendered.
