UNISPHERE
Classification: Extraterrestrial technology
Creator: Unrevealed
User/Possessors: Super-Skrull (K'lrt), Thanos
First Appearance: Captain Marvel I#27 (July, 1973)
Powers/Abilities/Functions: The Unisphere was a shimmering glass orb which apparently had no unusual abilities.
History:
(Captain Marvel I#27) - During his occupation of Titan, Thanos had to depart in order to search for the Cosmic Cube. Summoning his subordinate the Super-Skrull, he ordered him to assume command over Titan and handed him his "personal" Unisphere, claiming it would aid him and protect the Super-Skrull in case Drax the Destroyer or the Eternals of Titan attacked him. The Super-Skrull wondered if the Unisphere could repel Drax, given he had "the power of a legion" and questioned if "a mere shimmering glass" could stop him. Thanos silenced the Super-Skrull's queries, then departed.
When Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell), Eros and Mentor (A'lars) led an attack on Thanos' forces on Titan, the Super-Skrull was quickly beaten in hand-to-hand combat against Mar-Vell. Desperate, the Super-Skrull crawled to the Unisphere, remembering Thanos' promise that it would protect him. The Super-Skrull gripped the Unisphere and attempted to conjure up its power, asking it to destroy his enemies; when nothing happened, he pleaded with the Unisphere to "do something-- anything!" Collapsing from his injuries, the Super-Skrull dropped the Unisphere, which shattered into pieces. Mar-Vell astutely observed the Super-Skrull had been "fooled" by Thanos' promises.
