History:
(Captain America I#195 (fb) - BTS) - Through unrevealed
circumstances the woman known only as Tinkerbelle joined the Royalist
Forces of America. She accepted the rule and authority of the Elite and
proved herself as one of the most capable gladiators in the Kill-Derby.
She soon rose up through the ranks and became one of the captains of
this lethal skateboarding competition.
(Captain America I#195) - Tinkerbelle encountered Captain America and
the Falcon after the Elite's Cheer Chadwick presented them as possible
new recruits. Wearing her heavy green and gold armor, Tinkerbelle
immediately attacked. She used the mirrors built into one of her massive
gauntlets to blind one opponent before striking him with the 50-pound
glove, then turned her attention to the other. Despite their resistance,
Tinkerbelle successfully subdued both men. After the fight, Tinkerbelle
told Cheer that the pair were unsuitable for her team because they were
not killers and would not understand a sport in which fair play was
outlawed. Cheer nevertheless wanted them entered in the arena.
Tinkerbelle stated that she never disobeyed the Elite and carried the
two captives away, though she doubted they would survive for long once
the games began.
(Captain America I#196) - Shortly before the Kill-Derby,
Tinkerbelle was contacted by her teammate Number 2, who warned her that
Cheer was threatening to cancel the contest unless the two prisoners
participated. Tinkerbelle assured him she would deal with the problem.
She contacted the captives in their cell and told them that one of the
gladiators intended to use a stolen shield in the competition. If they
wanted it back, they would have to fight for it. Eager to reclaim his
shield as a first possible way to escape, the two agreed to join the
contest. Tinkerbelle brought the reluctant newcomers to the arena,
introducing them as the missing members of her team. The Kill-Derby then
began, with the contestants racing around the track on electrically
powered skateboards while using lethal weapons against one another.
(Captain America I#197 - BTS) - The two newcomers survived
the Kill-Derby and rejected the winners' pot of gold. Their refusal
angered Cheer and the surrounding crowd, who turned against them.
(Captain America I#197) - Tinkerbelle stood with the other Royalist
gladiators as the team moved to attack the pair again. Before the
confrontation could be settled, United States Army forces broke into the
underground installation. Explosions and gunfire threw the arena into
panic as the Royalist society collapsed around them. Tinkerbelle was
last seen among the gladiators during the fighting; her subsequent fate
remains unrevealed.
Comments: Created by Jack Kirby and D. Bruce Berry.
Bless Jack Kirby's penchant for cutesy codenames. Naming a bulky bulwark
of a woman after the delicate little fairy from Peter Pan isn't as on
the nose as 'Big Bertha' or 'Pink
Pearl' (whose last name happens to be Gross, cos, well... she's
fat, get it?). Still, it's definitely up there. Tinkerbelle must have
been exceptionally, possibly superhuman strong to be able to take out
both Cap and the Falcon on her own. It's a shame she hasn't made any
further appearances, she's exactly the type of character you'd expect on
Superia's
Femizons or as a member of the Grapplers.
