History:
(Dazzler I#12 (fb) - BTS) - Talent agent Sid Sterling was friends with
talent manager Harry S. Osgood.
(Avengers I#208 (fb) - BTS) - Sid acquired the superhero Wonder Man as
one of his clients.
(Avengers I#208 - BTS) - After Wonder Man's unexplained absences from the set of the film Guns of the Gunman got him replaced, Sid Sterling sent a telegram to Wonder Man at Avengers Mansion suggesting Wonder Man get another job and another agent. When the telegram was delivered to Avengers Mansion by Merriwether T. Fenniwell, it was accepted by the Avengers' butler Edwin Jarvis, who read the telegram, worried it could be an emergency.
(Dazzler I#12) - Following a series of career mishaps due to her moonlighting as a superheroine, the mutant Allison Blaire met with her angry manager Harry S. Osgood, who gave her the card of his colleague, Sid Sterling, and suggested that he could perhaps find Allison some more work. The grumbling Osgood warned that the jobs Sid might be able to get for her might not be of the highest caliber and Allison joked that they would be fine as long as they kept the wolves away. Allison later visited Sid Sterling's basement office in Manhattan, where Sid assured Allison that any friend of Harry Osgood's was a friend of his and that he could definitely find her work. When he warned Allison that she shouldn't expect Carnegie Hall, Allison thought to herself how she would just be happy if the job wasn't mud-wrestling and how Sid Sterling's operations appeared very sleazy. Allison later found herself acting as part of quintet of dancing singers that helped open a new franchise of the Burger Clown restaurants and she noted to herself how Sid was right that the gig wasn't Carnegie Hall nor even a pool hall. Early the next morning, the villainous Techmaster called Allison, posing as Sid Sterling with news of a great gig. Unaware of the Techmaster's ruse, Allison began getting ready for the gig, thinking on how she could continue doing small gigs for Sid Sterling while her manager Harry Osgood looked for more first-class engagements.
(Dazzler I#13) - Allison paid a visit to Harry Osgood
and asked if he had any work for her but he suggested she reach out to
Sid Sterling for the time being while Harry continued promoting her. As
Harry mentioned that Sid's engagements might be less spectacular,
Allison remarked that she would be happy if Sid managed to find her
something that wasn't illegal. Harry admitted Sid lacked a bit of class
but reminded her that Sid was still his friend and could be trusted.
Allison then left to visit Sid Sterling's Times Square basement office,
where Sid insisted that he always had jobs to give before handing her a
card and telling her to go to that address and ask for Mr. Hyfler.
After performing a gig delivering a singing telegram, Allison Blaire
thought that if there was work to be found, Sid would certainly find it.
Comments: Created by Danny Fingeroth, Frank Springer and Vince Colletta.
Sid Sterling's height and weight were impossible to approximate. While he was seen next to Dazzler, he was always shown sitting down. Additionally, he was only ever shown wearing glasses that obscured his eye color.
I'm really surprised that ol'
sleazy Sid hasn't turned up anywhere since 1982...I thought for sure he
might be one of the old Wonder Man characters that would've been seen
at Wondy's funeral in Tales of the Marvels: The Wonder Years#2 like Waylon
"Uncle Elmer" Wilkie...
