History: (Mad Magazine II#3 -
BTS) - P.P. Poker was an ordinary schoolboy and
lived with his uncle Ken and aunt Kay.
(Mad Magazine II#3) - P.P. Poker went on a field trip
to an atomic lab, which, while boasting the latest scientific
equipment, also had an appallingly lax open-door policy and the staff
was rather indifferent to their work, some even drinking on the job. One
of the
scientists enthusiastically demonstrated radioactive rays to the
visitors. Poker was wary of the lack of safety precautions and asked if
he needed to wear protective gear but the scientist replied that there
was no protective gear due to budget cuts. A spider, which the lab
staff hadn't noticed due to being too drunk, was exposed to the
radiation and bit P.P. in the eye. Poker felt sick, describing his
feeling as "a bit radioactive." The boy decided to go home. The
scientist told him to sign the guest book on the way out, which was
actually a liability waiver, and another staff member added that the
gift shop was on the right. While P.P. was outside, a radioactive
spider mutated into a huge monster and destroyed the lab. However, he
didn't notice (probably due to his condition) and, feeling disoriented,
hoped he wouldn't do anything weird. He soon woke up in a Spidery-Man
suit, upside down on a construction
beam. A spider jumped onto P.P.'s chest, and, frightened, he killed it.
The spider remained on his chest but he thought it looked good and
kept it as part of the costume.
One day, Spidery-Man witnessed a burglar running from
a security guard.
He didn't care but immediately, a shot rang out. It turned out that the
burglar had shot P.P. Poker's uncle Ken. Before he died, Ken began to
state that with
great power comes great responsibility but also that great
responsibility was
a "great pain in the ass." Ken then revealed that, at his nephew's age,
he
"had the sense to leave town, whore around and roll hobos for drugs,"
some of which he still secretly did to that day. He then died and turned
into a ghost
before he could finish and, in the end, all P.P. Poker heard from his
entire speech was "with great power comes great responsibility."

The three-page Spidery-Man comic from Mad
Magazine II#3 was, of course, a parody of the legendary Amazing Fantasy
I#15, where Spider-Man debuted.
