History:
(All-Winners Comics I#4/2 (fb) - BTS) - During WWII
hostilities, the stage
magician Mysto the Magician was hired by Imperial Japan to find out
about the USA's defense plans in the Pacific. He kept his stage name as
a pseudonym but took on the moniker Sorcerer for his covert activities.
He dubbed his hideaway base Sorcerer's Hollow and built in various
traps that scared the superstitious indigenous people. The Sorcerer
also employed a violent hunchbacked assistant. Continuing his identity
as Mysto, he was popular enough to be employed by the US Army to
perform a stage show for US troops in the Pacific. By coincidence,
soldiers Steve Rogers (secretly the heroic Captain America) and James
Barnes (secretly the heroic sidekick Bucky) attended.
(All-Winners Comics I#4/2) -
The Sorcerer dramatically appeared on stage and performed various magic
tricks to the amusement of the servicemen. He called up the military
camp's colonel for his next trick--and made him disappear behind his
cloak; the Sorcerer quickly followed. Changing into costume, Captain
America and Bucky quickly followed to investigate, but only found a
taunting letter
from the Sorcerer, who had fled back to his base with the colonel, but
foolishly left behind his makeup kit that identified his home base's
name. The Sorcerer tortured the colonel in an underground chamber, but
Cap and Bucky had meanwhile found their foe's base. The heroes overcame
the villain's traps and his nasty assistant, but fell down a trapdoor
that linked to torture chamber. More traps delayed Cap and Bucky until
they finally fought the Sorcerer. Overcoming him, the duo freed the
colonel, who had learned of an imminent Japanese air raid. The three US
Army men returned to base, taking along the Sorcerer and his vicious
assistant. Once the Japanese were repulsed, the two villains were
handed over to the US military police.

The opening splash page shows the Sorcerer on stage sawing a large box with Bucky trapped inside and Cap leaping in to rescue him, but this never happens in-story.
