History:
(Silverstorm I#1 (fb)) - Christopher Kastle was the son of scientist Gordon Kastle, founder and head of the multi-million-dollar scientific research Kastle Foundation, and inheritor of a family legacy that went back generations, represented by a 1840 Silver Dollar coin

(Silverstorm I#2 (fb)) - made by one of their ancestors,...

(Silverstorm I#3 (fb) - BTS) - Joshua Ellis Kastle...

(Silverstorm I#2 (fb)) - in 1784.

(Silverstorm I#1 (fb)) - It was passed down from father to son, accompanied by an oath, "ex fide sempiterna" ("in faith everlasting") that by tradition each child would swear on the coin to their father, promising to do everything in their power to promote the interests and power of the family, within legal and moral realms.

(Silverstorm I#2 (fb)) - As far back into his childhood as he could remember, Chris always recalled his father wearing the coin on a chain round his neck, until eventually he gave it to him. He always felt it brought him good luck.

(Silverstorm I#1 (fb)) - However Chris was unsure of his destiny and so never felt ready to take the oath, instead living the life of a playboy using Gordon's money and influence. For the senior Kastle's part, he indulged his son, willing to give him time to grow into the man he needed to be.

(Silverstorm I#2 (fb)) - When he was a teenager Chris accompanied his father on a trip and was introduced to Dr. Liam Wilderman, one of the world's foremost biochemists. Chris as impressed, finding the scientist sharp-minded and handsome.

(Silverstorm I#1 (fb)) - Chris studied hard, but played hard too, romancing many women, racing expensive grand prix cars, and competing in many sports including wind-surfing and football.

(SilverStorm II#1 (fb) - BTS) - He flew to New Orleans about once a month to party.

(Silverstorm I#1 (fb) - BTS) - He attended a modeling show in Paris, where he saw the Icelandic supermodel Natashia, and was smitten with her.

(Silverstorm I#1 (fb)) - Too caught up in his own life, he missed warning signs that something was wrong with his father, noticing but writing off extensive phone calls and private meetings Gordon took, and only realizing in hindsight that his father had been trying to hide that he was being eaten by an unstated fear. Two days after Chris left for a sailboat race off the Great Barrier Reef in Australia Gordon died in a plane crash. Informed of his loss by his father's closest friend, Japanese scientist Shingo Amamiya, the heartbroken Chris flew to Tokyo when told by Shingo that there was a special provision in the will he needed to discuss with Chris. There Shingo showed Chris both the lab that Gordon had built for his Japanese friend, the will that as expected left Chris everything,...and the suit of advanced high-tech powered armor that Gordon had left in Shingo's custody for Chris.

Chris returned to America for the funeral, accompanied by Shingo and the suit. At the funeral Chris swore on his father's grave that he would find his way in life and live up to his father's expectation. He also noticed an insane-looking old man staring at him, one he didn't recognize but who seemed to know him. Chris thought the man looked like he wanted to talk, but though Chris also wanted to question him, the man abruptly left and the grieving son didn't have the heart to follow him at that moment. Afterwards Chris and Shingo went to Chris' ranch in New Mexico to test the suit. Though its capabilities such as flight all worked like a dream, it took time for Chris to master them, though luckily the suit was well enough designed to help him survive mistakes such as initially being unable to fly straight, and so crashing into the ground. In time though he got the hang of things, becoming extremely proficient. His overall confidence growing, Chris decided to investigate the circumstances of his father's death, but though he could not confirm foul play, the evidence that suggested it was an accident began to look unsatisfactory. The coroner insisted nothing unnatural had caused his death, a result of a massive stroke while he was piloting, but Chris also learned that his father had a physical a month before the accident that showed him to be in perfect health. Unable to accept what he was learning, Chris began having sleepless nights, eventually taking a break to gather his thoughts. Eventually though his new responsibilities as the head of the Kastle Foundation demanded his attention. The Annual Kastle Foundation International Symposium was to be renamed in Gordon's honor, and Chris felt obligated to attend. Calling on Shingo to accompany him, Chris sailed from New York to Kingston, Jamaica, the location of that year's Symposium.

(Silverstorm I#1) - The night of the Symposium's opening ceremony Chris was approached by Natashia, in Jamaica for both a photoshoot and to attend the Symposium for its geology lectures. Having been asked by her associate Richard Maitland, an electrical engineer who had been meant to attend but now could not, to deliver some research he had done for the Foundation to Chris,

(Silverstorm I#2 (fb)) - Natashia approached him as the attendees were beginning to gather in anticipation of the opening ceremony, and handed him an envelope containing the results of the project Maitland was working on under Dr. Arnold Weatherton.

(Silverstorm I#1) - Natashia found the young CEO charming, and they immediately clicked, going to dinner together where Chris learned that Natashia's fascination with geology had grown from her childhood growing up near a geothermal factory. Their meal was interrupted by Chris' realizing he was late to deliver the opening speech at the dedication ceremony, but afterwards the pair dodged the press to leave together.

(Silverstorm I#2 (fb)) - Chris left the envelope containing Maitland's research with his chauffeur,...

(Silverstorm I#3 (fb) - BTS) - Jason.

(Silverstorm I#1) - Despite the late hour, Chris accepted Natashia's invitation to accompany her to Montego Bay for a night shoot, and after it finished they walked together along the beach, unaware they were being spied on. Just as they paused and were about to kiss, they were suddenly attacked by two men. The larger of the two went for Chris, who managed to use the assailant's own momentum to throw him, but this merely enraged the man, who stormed into Chris and proceeded to pound him unconscious, while the other man, smaller only in comparison to his massive friend and armed with several firearms, captured Natashia. Chris woke to find both he and Natashia captives, guarded by his attacker, who was now wielding a large two-bladed battleaxe. Seeing Chris had revived, the man called out, summoning the other man and their employer, who entered with his face hidden by a hooded cape. The new arrival demanded Chris tell him everything he knew of Maitland's work, and refused to believe Chris when he truthfully said he knew nothing. Chris demanded to know why they had been kidnapped, and the man stated that Maitland had something he wanted. Pulling down his hood to reveal a heavily scarred face with a look of madness, the man added in a rant that with Maitland's research he would conquer the world.

(Silverstorm I#2) - As the hooded man laughed maniacally, Chris realized he was entirely serious, and called him insane to his face. In response the hooded man demanded to know where Maitland was, and the location of the Weatherton Project the scientist was working on. When Chris didn't answer fast enough, the large man who had captured him lifted Chris up above his head and threatened him, but told by his hooded boss, who now identified this minion as Axe, to put the prisoner down. The hooded man ordered him to leave the room, then settled into a chair. Getting his wind back, Chris demanded to know their captor's identity, and the scarred madman stated he was once Liam Wilderman. Startled to see what had become of the formerly handsome scientist, Chris listened as Wilderman recounted how he had discovered an adrenal-derived strength enhancing formula, only to be literally stabbed in the back by a colleague seeking to steal the credit, a malefactor who then set the lab on fire to hide his actions, thus first burning Wilderman and then dousing him in a boiling vat of the formula as he attempted to escape the flames. Surviving, now heavily-scarred and permanently enhanced by his formula, he had sworn to make the world fear him. However Chris rightly concluded that Wilderman had been driven mad. He tried to comfort a worried Natashia, but Wilderman was growing impatient, and had his second minion, now identified as Hunter, threaten to shoot Natashia if Chris didn't tell him Maitland's location. Wilderman refused to believe Chris when he (truthfully) said he didn't know, as he'd only just taken over the Foundation, and when Wilderman turned his attention to Natashia, Chris tried to get between them, only for the superhumanly strong Wilderman to casually swat him away. Wilderman was about to start torturing Natashia when Axe returned to inform his boss that he had found the information they wanted in the hands of Chris' chauffeur, killing the unfortunate driver in the process. Axe asked to be rewarded for his discovery by "partying" with Natashia, and despite still being barely able to move after Wilderman's blows, Chris threatened to kill the brute if he touched her. Axe responded to the threat by kicking the prone Chris in the gut, but was prevented from following through by Wilderman, who ordered them kept alive for now while he and his two lieutenants follow up on the information they had procured.

After they left Natashia began searching the cell for any possible means of escape. The window was barred and it sounded like there was a guard left outside the room, so a disheartened Chris suggested she give it up. He stared at the silver dollar hanging on a chain round his neck, and told Natashia of the family legacy, but also that he felt the luck if used to bring him seemed to have run out. However Natashia counseled him that they still had hope, and told him she had a plan. Without explaining she took a chair and smashed the window, then began beating on the bars with one of the broken chair's legs while loudly shouting to run. As anticipated, this caused the guard outside to start to enter, expecting to see them in the middle of escaping out the window. To Chris' astonishment, Natashia waved her hand down and a huge blast of wind came through the broken window and smashed the steel door back into the guard's face, causing him to drop his pistol. Snatching it up, Chris smashed the butt into the guard's face, knocking him out. He then asked Natashia how she had managed her trick, but she deflected, saying she had wished on his silver dollar. Taking the keys from their unconscious custodian, who they noticed had slightly strange features and a number, 624, tattooed on his forehead, the pair slipped quietly out the complex, encountering only one more guard at the exterior door. After Chris shot the man, they realized he was identical to the other minion bar having a different number, 523, on his forehead. The pair made their way across the island until they found their way to Kingston, and from there to a hotel away from the Symposium lest Wilderman try looking for them. Chris called Shingo to inform him of what had occurred, then arranged for his armor to be urgently flown from New Mexico to Jamaica.

(Silverstorm I#3 (fb) - BTS) - The suit arrived, and Chris got the location of Maitland's lab in Puerto Rico from Foundation records, then made hasty preparations to fly there.

(Silverstorm I#3) - At Kingston's Palisadoes International Airport Chris, Natashia and Shingo waited while the suit was loaded onto Chris' jet, the Albatross. Shingo worried that going after Wilderman would be dangerous, given his clear disregard for human life, but Chris felt obligated to check on Maitland. Natashia called his attention to a news report about a masked hero the press had dubbed the Champion, operating in Chicago where he had just rescued several people from a burning building, planting seeds of an idea in Chris' mind. Natashia insisted on accompanying Chris, and as they flew Chris pressed her for the truth about what had happened back in the cell. Natashia admitted that she had always been able to control the winds, never knowing why, but just that it was a normal part of her. She then revealed (fairly literally) that she'd put together a skin-tight costume which she was now wearing under her coat, explaining that it would otherwise be a lot easier for her to jeopardize her identity than it would for him in his "tank." Reaching Puerto Rico the pair drove a jeep close to Maitland's lab, then changed into their respective outfits. To Chris' wonder, Natashia revealed her wind control even allowed her to fly, and she took off, with Chris following moments later. However, still not having mastered flying, Chris soon crash-landed, and so walked the rest of the way while Natashia flitted around him. Reaching the lab they found it wrecked, with the corpses of both Maitland and Weatherton inside. A search confirmed that Weatherton's discovery, the ESDA (Electromagnetic Subatomic Discohesion Apparatus) had been stolen - able to break the bonds between subatomic particles thus reducing matter to dust, it was in effect a disintegrator beam. The knowledge that Wilderman was free to wreak havoc and take more lives angered and frustrated Chris, but unable to do anything about it, he consoled Natashia over the loss of her friend, and for want of a better option they returned to Jamiaca.

(Silverstorm I#3 - BTS) - A week later Wilderman began attacks around Europe. The press gave him a new title: Doctor Fear. He was backed by his two lieutenants, and an army of his identical minions, who were identified to be clones.

(Silverstorm I#3) - A week into Dr. Fear's rampage with the authorities failing to stop him, Chris' frustration boiled over, believing he had the means to stop the madman in the form of his armor, but lacked the knowledge of where he was. Soon after Fear provided that knowledge, as he stormed the U.N. building in New York and took the general assembly delegates hostage, demanding that world leaders acknowledge him as their ruler. Chris announced to Shingo and Natashia that he was going after Fear, adding that he'd never made the family oath on the silver dollar, until now. With Shingo the closest thing to family he had left, Chris dropped to his knee and took the oath.

(Silverstorm I#4 (fb) - BTS) - With the police and press outside the U.N. in full force, Chris and Natashia discussed how they were going to publicly present themselves, coming up with the codenames Silver Dollar and Tempest. They sailed Childe Harold from Jamaica to within a short flight distance from NYC.

(Silverstorm I#4) - Suiting up, the pair flew to the U.N. building and landed next to the TV news van broadcasting a live interview with the senior NYPD officer present. Introducing themselves and stating they were there to stop Doctor Fear, they explained they were not affiliated with the military or government, merely individuals with special abilities who wanted to follow the lead of Chicago's Champion. Then they headed in. While Tempest flew up high, Silver Dollar ran towards the entrance, drawing the clones' gunfire, which impacted harmlessly off his armor. Once he was close enough he released an electrical charge that forced the clones back, then smashed through the barricade they had built. As the two heroes rushed inside the police and army hastily followed suit, allowing the heroes to keep pressing forward rather than worry about any remaining clones behind them. They smashed their way into the main assembly chamber before Fear and his lieutenants had time to grasp what was happening and harm the hostages, and Silver Dollar informed Fear that he was making a citizen's arrest. Laughing at this, Fear ordered his clones to open fire, but their weapons proved ineffectual against the armor, and Silver Dollar advanced inexorably on Fear. Axe and Hunter tried next, but even at point blank range Hunter's bullets merely bounced off Silver Dollar, who then grabbed his face and electrocuted him. Using his namesake weapon Axe struck the armored man from behind, but this merely served to break the tool, and while the villain was still standing dumbfounded Silver Dollar punched him hard enough to send Axe flying across the room.

Fear tried to flee with the stolen ESDA, but Tempest spotted him and blasted him again and again with winds, knocking him off his feet and away from the purloined device. Meanwhile Silver Dollar noticed that Hunter was back up and also trying to flee. Firing up his boot jets, the hero launched himself after the felon, but made the mistake of shouting at his foe, providing an unintended warning that let Hunter dodge and then jump up above Silver Dollar to slam the flying man into the floor. Concern over her partner also distracted Tempest, allowing Dr. Fear to flee. As Silver Dollar climbed back to his feet Hunter threw a grenade at him; immediately Chris activated his jets again, creating some distance before it exploded, although the detonation still knocked him about. Slightly concussed, Silver Dollar was helped back to his feet by Tempest, and they set off in pursuit. However, when they got outside they learned from some soldiers that Dr. Fear and Hunter had flown off in a jet. Onlookers were shouting their praise and the soldiers thanked the two heroes, but a suited man who identified himself as a government agent, Oliver Cain, walked up and began both demanding explanations about who they were and where Silver Dollar's armor had come from, as well as berating them for interfering in a situation he claimed had been under control. Angrily Silver Dollar pointed out that he'd risked his life, and now while Cain was bitching at him the killer was getting away. And with that, the two heroes flew away.

The pair returned to their yacht, where Chris vented his frustrations at Dr. Fear escaping, insisting they had to track him down. Tempest suggested Fear might have fled back to his base in Jamaica, so the pair flew there. Within moments of landing outside the base they were confronted by Fear, pointing the ESDA directly at them. The villain expressed some confusion why they had persisted in tracking him all the way to Jamaica, so Silver Dollar told him it was personal, and removed his helmet to reveal his true identity. Fear found this amusing, and called to Hunter to fire. Looking behind them the two heroes saw that Hunter had snuck up while they were focused on Fear, and was pointing an RPG directly at them. However, as he fired Silver Dollar and Tempest launched themselves skywards; the missile flew harmlessly beneath them and straight at Dr. Fear, who in a panic dropped the ESDA and tried to duck inside the base just before it was blown up. Observing from the air, the two heroes dropped back to the ground, with Tempest telling Silver Dollar to confirm Fear's status while she dealt with Hunter. Looking at the wreckage, Chris concluded that nothing could have survived the explosion, then walked over to the ESDA and destroyed it. With Tempest having knocked out Hunter, Chris threw the remains of the ESDA into the ocean and the pair headed off to drop off Hunter with the authorities and then go home.

(SilverStorm II#1 (fb) - BTS) - Despite their growing closeness, the pair's busy schedules saw them part ways, with Natashia heading overseas for photo shoots and Chris busy with his company, and as a result rarely getting the opportunity to wear the suit. The Kastle Foundation acquired a building in New Orleans along with all the employees working there in a corporate buyout. Chris set up a lab there and began working with Shingo to develop a wrist-mounted laser intended to be added to the suit.

(SilverStorm II#1) - Chris successfully tested the laser, though Shingo noted that his father would have disapproved of putting weapons to the armor. Chris mentioned to Shingo how difficult he was finding adjusting to running a company, especially when the poor economy was necessitating layoffs. As Shingo left, neither he nor Chris noticed a maintenance worker, who was surprised to see them exiting from a hidden room, and caught a glimpse of the armor through the doorway.

(SilverStorm II#1 - BTS) - The worker sold this information to the local mafia, who decided the armor might be useful in their ongoing war against the Yakuza.

(SilverStorm II#1) - As Chris took a cab into town he suddenly spotted Natashia, who had a modeling gig in New Orleans. Stopping the driver, Chris ran out and they exchanged a joyful hug, then decided to grab dinner together and catch up, before hitting Bourbon Street to party. Wandering through town after leaving the clibs, they spotted two costumed thugs beating someone up. Realizing they had witnesses and figuring they had finished their work anyway, the pair, Yakuza enforcers Skull and Crossbones, ran off, leaving Chris and Natashia to report the incident to the police. The cops informed Chris that the victim was one of his employees, though not one he recognized. Chris and Natashia returned to their hotel and spent the night together.

(SilverStorm II#1 - BTS) - The victim was the maintenance worker that had talked to the Mafia, and who in turn had told Skull and Crossbones the same information before he died. As a result, the Yakuza also set their sights on stealing the armor.

(SilverStorm II#1) - Next day Chris returned to his building and spent the day in his office working. However, as the work day grew to a close, he noticed that no one had tried to contact him for a while. Hearing a commotion outside, he glanced out and saw that armed (Mafia) thugs had taken the top floor's office staff prisoner and heard them mention they were trying to locate him. Realizing he needed to somehow reach his armor, Chris went out his office window and carefully edged round the ledge to the next open window, entering a room that led out into an empty corridor. Racing down the stairs intending to get to his fifth floor lab, he found men dressed as maintenance workers on the floor he wanted. Noting that they were armed, he played along when they told him the floor was closed for repairs, and headed further down instead. There he found lower floor employees working as usual, and learned they believed the top floor executives had called a special meeting and were not to be disturbed. Unable to reach Natashia, Chris called the police, but the cops who arrived seemed remarkably laid back about the news that several people were being held hostage by armed gunmen. They advised Chris to send the other staff home for safety, but as he ushered his employees out Chris noticed one of the cops being handed a large wad of cash by a supposed repairman, and realized they were on the criminals' payroll. Correctly assuming they would try to take him prisoner once potential witnesses had left, Chris raced outside before they could stop him, and found a covert spot to watch his building's entrance. Unable to think of any other solutions, he raced over to Natashia's hotel, hoping to recruit her help to free the hostages. She was in, but showed him the news, which was just reporting that the Kastle Building had just been sold to Ruggieri Industries. At Natashia's suggestion Chris called the building; one of the senior Mafiosi answered, and informed him that unless he told them where he was keeping his high-tech weapons, they would start killing hostages.

(SilverStorm II#2) - Donning her Tempest costume, Natashia flew Chris back into the building on the fifth floor, and they headed towards his secret lab to retrieve his armor. Before they could do so however they were confronted by Skull and Crossbones, who had broken in with the same objective. While Natashia tried to keep them busy, Chris made a dash for his armor, but the pair managed to knock down Tempest when she momentarily let herself get distracted, and Crossbones pursued Chris into the lab and tackled him before had time to don the suit. After a brief battle the two villains knocked both Tempest and Chris out and escaped with the suit. Back inside the two heroes revived, and Chris retrieved some components from the lab, but as they exited they ran into Mafia goons, and were forced to jump out a window to the street below, with Tempest slowing their fall at the last moment, though they nearly hit a passerby. Wary of being caught on video by some random witness, the thugs decided not to follow. The passerby proved to be a strangely hirsute man (the mutate known as Demon - see comments), who told them he didn't want to get involved in their problems since he had enough of his own, but did inform them the way Skull and Crossbones had gone. Tempest told their new acquaintance that both of them were new to town, and asked if he knew anywhere they might get help for their situation, so he informed them of an associate who might, a woman called Kunoichi.

After stopping briefly at Natashia's hotel to treat Chris' injuries and grab a street map the pair headed over to the address Demon had given them. Kunoichi was not pleased that strangers had discovered her training studio, but listened when they mentioned who had sent them there. Hearing their story she identified the pair who had stolen the armor (since she had trained them for the Yakuza), and told them not to go after them if they valued their lives. Returning to Natashia's room Chris tried to reassemble the wrist-blaster, but then he got another phone call from the Mafia, telling him to hand over the armor of they would kill Shingo.

(SilverStorm II#3) - Finally completing his blaster gauntlets, Chris donned the armor components he had managed to grab from the lab, and the pair set off to rescue the hostages. Tempest flew them both to the roof of the Kastle Foundation building, but before they had time to attempt entry she spotted from their high vantage point that someone down by the docks was ineptly practicing flying in the Silver Dollar armor. Tempest hastily flew herself and Chris there, where they found Skull (in the armor) and Crossbones. As expected, the pair refused to relinquish their purloined prize, so Chris opened fire with his blaster. Crossbones dodged, but Skull was knocked backwards off the dock.

While Tempest took on Crossbones, Skull flew back to confront Chris. Assuming that her armor had the same armaments as Chris had displayed, she tried to fire on him, but to his amusement she discovered the armor she was wearing didn't have the energy gauntlets. However, she instead switched to ramming him and smashing them both through warehouse's exterior wall. Protected by the armor, Skull recovered quickly, but lost track of Chris, who seemed to have been buried under towers of boxes collapsed by their violent arrival. Having temporarily shaken Crossbones, Tempest entered the warehouse to lend Chris aid, and she faced off against Skull, unaware Crossbones was about to drop on her from above, but the assassin was blasted in mid-air by Chris, who had just emerged from under the boxes. Crossbones was sent flying, allowing Tempest to focus on Skull, disorienting her with a tornado and then blasting her with hurricane force winds. Chris then seemingly knocked Skull out with a punch to the head, the stolen helmet she was wearing insufficient to counter his armored fist. This proved to be a ruse on Skull's part, as she suddenly rallied and went for Chris at the same moment Crossbones returned and leapt at Tempest. However, she was ready for him, and as Chris jumped on top of Skull, Tempest used her hurricane winds to stop Crossbones before he could reach her, smashing him into the warehouse wall and rendering him unconscious. Chris meanwhile struck Skull blow after blow, giving her no respite to recover, until Tempest stopped him, pointing out Skull was out cold. Chris began to strip the armor off her, but before he could finish a group of Mafia gunmen arrived, having been alerted to the fight by workers hiding in the warehouses. They took the armor and tied up Tempest, Chris and Skull, then threw them all in the water to drown.

Originally published by Malibu, making it fair game for Appendix coverage, Silverstorm is a creator-owned series set in the Silverline Comics universe, alongside titles such as Cat & Mouse and Demon's Tails. The second miniseries, which the indicia confirms is titled SilverStorm (no gap, but two capital letters), was published by Silverline themselves, and was supposed to be four issues, though as far as I've been able to ascertain the fourth issue never got released.

Since there was to be a fourth issue, presumably Chris and Nastashia both survived being dropped in the river (or ocean - not sure which). The comic revealed that someone was watching the Mafia, possibly Kunoichi, so whoever that was might have rescued them.

The Silverline comics share a universe, as evidenced by the Champion showing up in Cat & Mouse, Demon's Tails and SilverStorm, or Demon just randomly being the person Chris and Tempest bump into in SilverStorm#2 when they flee the Kastle Foundation. It's huge coincidence, but not really any more than the times Marvel heroes operating in NYC run into one another.

The second series mentions that Chris Kastle's parents (apparently plural) died in the plane crash. I've got to assume that was an error, because otherwise he was incredibly callous in the original miniseries, only mourning his father when his mother had also just died.

This profile was completed on 09/13/2026, but its publication was delayed as it was intended for the Appendix 25th anniversary's celebratory event to represent Silverstorm.
