History:
(Annie Oakley I#5/4 (fb) - BTS) - Marty Sharp went prospecting for gold with Ed Gordon. Their search was successful but Marty was determined to have all the gold for himself. Ed hid his half of the gold on his property along with the deed to his home and a note explaining that if he were found dead, Marty Sharp would be the one to kill him. Sure enough, Marty killed Ed and buried him in the canyon where they'd found the gold. Unaware of where Ed had hidden the gold, Marty forged a deed claiming he owned the Gordon property. Marty went to the property to claim it for himself but Ed's young son Billy drove him off with a shotgun.

(Annie Oakley I#5/4) - Marty enlisted Sheriff Idaho Smith to expel the Gordons from their property. Smith went to the Gordon's shack to investigate along with Marty and Idaho's friend Annie Oakley. Billy tried to warn them off the property with his shotgun but Idaho and Annie convinced Billy to let them investigate, especially when they learned Billy's mother was ill in bed. Marty was unconcerned with the Gordons' plight and told Idaho if he wouldn't eject them from "his" property, he'd report the incident to the marshal in Santa Fe.

To win over Billy, Annie gave him a pinto. When the pinto appeared with one of the bags of gold in its mouth, Marty realized the pinto had found Ed's hiding place and stole the pinto so he could try and force it to lead him to the hiding spot. Annie and Idaho set out to find the missing pinto and quickly discovered it in Marty's possession. Idaho arrested Marty and the pinto soon led them to the hiding spot, where they discovered Ed Gordon's note implicating Marty for murder. Marty confessed his crimes.

(Annie Oakley I#6/4) - Awaiting sentencing, Marty staged a jailbreak from the jail in Buena Vista. Marty commandeered a wagon pulled by four horses and tried to flee town but Annie Oakley came to stop him. Recalling how she helped capture him, Marty tried to trample her with the wagon but she expertly jumped aboard the wagon. Marty tried to lash her with a whip but she shot the whip from his hand with her pistol then used the whip to tie him up. Annie turned Marty back over to Idaho but rather than appearing grateful, Idaho was annoyed at Annie for being unfeminine in her adventurous activity.
