Powers/Abilities: Originally a small lizard able to be held in a person's hands, Scooter possessed the capacity to regrow a severed tail.

It's devolved form was massive, possessing vast strength and durability due to its sheer bulk. It sought to devour any human-sized prey around, but it could be duped into approaching an airlock, and it was not immune to the vacuum and frigid cold of space.

Height: Unrevealed; original form approximately 5" long; devolved form approximately perhaps 40' long, 12' at shoulder height and 25' high at the highest point of its back (perhaps 30' or greater including dorsal ridges/plates
Weight: Unrevealed; original form approximately 1.75 ounces (50 grams); devolved form was massive, perhaps hundreds or thousands of tons tons)
Eyes: Dark

Skin/scales: Originally green; devolved form more purple, with pink dorsal plates.

History:
(Dreadstar I#7/2 (fb) - BTS) - Scooter was a pet lizard of Farquat, the apparently mechanoid assistant of the science whiz Aldo Gorney aboard their interstellar starship. At some point, Scooter lost his tail under unrevealed circumstances.

(Dreadstar I#7/2) - Appreciating that Scooter had regrown his tail and interested in the science behind reptilian regeneration, Gorney decided to expose Scooter to his Devolv-o-tron to show what Scooter's ancestors looked like several hundred thousand years ago.

    However, as Gorney started the machine, he received a phone call from Hatch Latchwell of Space Colony Alpha Cleveland VI, and he instructed Farquat to make sure Scooter was only exposed to the Devolv-o-tron for two minutes.

    Devolving at the rate of thousands of years per second, Scooter began to grow into much larger form akin to a dinosaur.

    As Gorney learned that Alpha Cleveland VI's freezer system had burned out, causing all of their meat to spoil, Farquat tried to turn off the device but found the switch to be stuck.

    Farquat rushed to tell Gorney what had happened, but Gorney put him off as he was on hold for the urgent problem. Meanwhile, Scooter continued to grow until his massive weight crushed the platform, causing the Devolv-o-tron to short circuit.

    On one world, as a peaceful agreement had finally reached to end the war, the delegates present were reverted into cavemen-like form and savagely attacked each other.

(Dreadstar I#7/2) - Finally listening to Farquat and appreciating the imminent danger from Scooter's now monstrous saurian form, Gorney ordered him Scooter to pull him away at top speed.

    Scooter pursued the two, tearing through walls when they attempted to escape him through small door.

    Appreciating a solution, Gorney had Farquat pull him beside an airlock, donned an atmospheric protection helmet and prepared a series of chains to be used to secure their forms outside of the spaceship, and then called to Scooter.

    As Scooter rushed to them, Gorney led him through a loop of chain and then opened the airlock, and Scooter, Gorney and Farquat were all pulled outside, secured by the chains.

    Scooter swiftly froze, while Gorney and Farquat returned to their ship, and Gorney informed Latchwell that he had resolved his meat shortage.

Too bad for Scooter. He was harmless until Gorney carelessly devolved him and then had to destroy him to save his own life (and that of Farquat).

    Interstellar Toybox was a back-up feature in a couple issues (at least of Dreadstar).
    Did it take place in its own reality, or in Reality-8116 (Dreadstar's reality) or in Reality-616 somewhere in a distant galaxy?
    I doubt we will ever know...
