History:

(Kid Komics I#3/8) - After Yugoslavia was occupied by the Nazis, Jan Valor worked as a laborer at a Nazi airfield while secretly serving as a member of General Draja Mikhailovitch's Chetniks. Jan and his friend Josef secretly stole spare parts from the airfield, gradually building an entire plane. When Major Hoffritz became suspicious, he had his soldiers track down the airfield workers. Josef and other Chetniks were shot in the back by Nazis as they fled; only Jan survived and went to the barn where he and Tanya had been assembling the plane; the magneto Jan had brought was the final part. Much to Jan's surprise, General Mikhailovitch had come in person to see the assembled aircraft.

    Unfortunately, Nazis soon surrounded the farmhouse and General Mikhailovitch had to flee through a trapdoor exit because of the price on his head. General Mikhailovitch advised Jan to destroy the plane but Jan decided instead he'd install the magneto and take flight. Tanya helped fight off the Nazis while Jan opened the barn doors and used his plane's machine guns to fire on the Nazis. Calling himself the Red Hawk, Jan flew away while Tanya was taken prisoner.

    Jan met with General Mikhailovitch again in a Chetnik mountain base. General Mikhailovitch was impressed that Jan had saved the plane but Jan wanted to save Tanya from being executed by the Nazis.

    The next day, Tanya was about to be executed by firing squad when the Red Hawk swooped down and opened fire on the Nazis. General Mikhailovitch brought a squad of Chetniks to support the Red Hawk. Major Hoffritz tried to smash Red Hawk's plane but General Mikhailovitch shot him in the back. The Chetniks won a great victory over the Nazis.
